SUBJECT:
INSPECTION OF SPEED BUMPS AT VANCOUVER – CENTRE HOLIDAY INN, 711 WEST BROADWAY VANCOUVER, BC.
As per your request on February 25, 2005 I inspected the speed bumps located on the perimeter road and parking lots of the Vancouver – Centre Holiday Inn located at 711 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC. The inspection occurred on February 28, 2005, starting at 2:30pm and concluding at 4:30pm. I am submitting this report as an account of my findings regarding the speed bumps at this location. There are problems with the dimensions of the speed bumps and significant damage has occurred to the speed bumps. I have also included in this report my recommendation for action.
Dimensions:
The speed bumps do not conform to the by-law dimensions. The height, width, and slope are all in excess of the maximum measurements put forth by the by-law section 17.2.93
All traffic control devices such as speed bumps or speed humps shall not exceed a height of six (6) inches and a slope of thirty five (35) degrees. The width shall not be less than eighteen inches and not more than thirty six (36) inches.
Figure 1 shows the maximum dimensions for a speed bump to comply with the current Vancouver City by-laws. Figure 2 shows the current dimensions of the speed bumps located on the grounds of the Vancouver – Centre Holiday Inn at 711 W. Broadway, Vancouver, BC. As you will see there is a significant difference in the dimensions.
