A job and money controls ones lifestyle and helps people have a normal life as long as they are employed. Unemployment has a proven negative impact on self-esteem and often negatively impacts family and social relationships. There are various reasons why a person would become unemployed. Those who are unemployed can experience financial, emotional, and personal problems in their lives.

The most common causes of unemployment are company layoffs or getting fired for not following company rules and guidelines. Problems within the company itself will also lead to terminations. Smaller companies may have to cut out the entire work force while larger corporations may just cut back on the number of employees in certain fields or areas. Some of these problems cannot be seen in advance, thus leaving countless numbers of people without a job, and more importantly, without a backup plan. A study shows that during January 2003 through December 2005 period, 3.8 million workers were displaced from jobs they had held for at least 3 years. Of those long-tenured workers displaced during the January 2003 through December 2005 period, 49 percent lost or left their jobs due to plant or company closings or moves, 29 percent reported that their position or shift was abolished and 22 percent cited insufficient work as the reason for being displaced (search.ebsohost.com). If a person is fired from a job most of the time its very hard to find a job right away especially in the same field. Often times in life we figure out it is not always what you know. Instead, it may be more beneficial in the job search utilizing who you know. Often times people are hired through a grapevine of friends. Once this job is lost, it is much harder to fend for yourself and obtain a job based merely on credentials alone. Aside from that, try finding a job with a recent firing on your resume. If you were a boss would you readily hire someone who had just been fired? Employers in this position are often times reluctant to make hires with someone who does not have a clean slate. No person is looking to hire someone who had just been fired for reasons such as not showing up for work, failure to do a sufficient job or breaking the company rules. At times, the economy plays an important role for job lay offs. If the economy is down it makes finding a job very difficult and it affects all people who are unemployed.

Education plays an important role of landing a job. Some people have trouble seeking employment because they do not have the proper education or they do not qualify for a specific job they are seeking. Many people decide to attend college because they think a college degree will directly affect the range of jobs they are qualified for, allow for better financial gain and increase a companies willingness to bump them up the chain of command once established with a company. Individuals with a higher level of education are generally more likely to be working, and they are likely to be earning more than those with lower levels of education (Aue 16). Positions that require a college degree usually have higher starting salaries as opposed to those who do not require a higher education. Therefore, landing a job without a college degree, a person can not easily move up in the company or make more money until they have completed more education or training.

When a company starts a hiring process they generally ask for references from ones pervious employer. If they dont have a good work record the person is unlikely to get hired. A Human Resource professional will always hire the most qualified person based on their resume, or brief account of ones education and professional experience. However, Human Resource professionals are motivated to help the unemployed, but their first priority is to protect the company. They select the candidate that best fits the job and possesses the qualities which will in turn make the company more profitable with a direct correlation to their work ethic.

A person whom has been unemployed for a substantial period of time will increase the financial burden and stress for the unemployed as well as their creditors. Once funds from a paycheck are no longer granted, it triggers a snowball effect on paying their bills. Such effects can be experienced when financial obligations are not met within certain time constraints and creditors are then left with no other choice but to issue late fees on an account and could even report negative pay history to a local credit bureau. In some cases utility services like phone, gas, and electricity can be terminated if they become past due for more than two months. Unemployment separates a person form their source of income, the flow of money that continues to their quality of life. The lack of funds no longer gives the person the financial stability they once had. Once funds become limited or even stopped it will undoubtedly create a financial nightmare in ones life. This can cause financial stress in a family and people sometimes become depressed.

Unemployment will affect the entire family life. Due to the emotional stress, aggravation and a desperate feeling of becoming employed again will cause friction between the family members.
