College isnt just about learning principles and graduating four years later; to me its a way to meet new people, becoming accustomed with a new environment, and learning about a world outside of your own. I was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts, and there really isnt much to see here. When I would go out to places such as New York City, I was thrilled by what goes on around here so quickly. I love how this City is the Mecca capital of the world. Everything is located within minutes of each other and its easy to navigate around the City.
The reason why I see Barnard in my future is because I would like to add a bit of diversity to the college. I was recently in the College Board website, and when I saw that only 9% are Hispanic women, I knew that I could help change this percentage so that Barnard College is not only known for its empowerment of women, but its diversity as well. Diversity is really important to me, because everyone benefits from this. We all learn something about each others culture, and become open-minded.
I believe in this time of day diversity is essential, because we learn about ourselves and become more stronger about situations ahead of us in the future. We need to stick together as women in this male dominant world. I believe its really influential that we have more womens colleges. Sure there wont be any guys around, but colleges like these motivate us to be leaders in our careers rather than coed colleges.
An encounter that has demonstrated life experiences to me is my family. Ive grown up with many female role models in my life. I have looked up to my mother raising my Brother and I, and have seen the sacrifices she has made for us. Many of my Aunts are single mothers and have had the burden of taking care of their children alone,
