Integrative Network Design Project Case

They have requested service in connecting their three locations via a Wide Area Network (WAN), a WLAN for each store internally, and Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to the network. The three locations are spread around the San Diego area in La Jolla, Del Mar, and Encinitas. We will ensure that once this system is completed, it will not only be limited to these three locations, but able to be expanded on if KFF opens up new sites. We will start by formulating a design for a system that will meet the needs of KFF. Characteristics and Components Each location is home to a 10.1.50.0 Ethernet network, which has many machines running on it. Not to mention an outdated OS, their Internet speeds max out at 56k. To be in line with today’s average business, KFF has an immense amount of updates of hardware and software to go through. There are certain pieces of hardware that will stay the same for the most part. Current Network TopologyRight now, each KFF location is running on their own individual network, using a bus network topology, meaning each computer is connected to a centralized bus. Not only is this type of topology almost non-existent, it does not allow the locations to intercommunicate with one another. Dial up modems are currently being used for the local area connection. All it takes is a phone line to be down and issues will begin to arise. This modem causes frequent problems for the company because each time a purchase is made, it must contact the modem, not to mention all of the other programs and users. With this outdated technology, KFF is not able to perform at their best because of connection and speed issues. All backups must be done manually which takes a lot of time and the security that it has is minimal. KFFs current technology is highly outdated and means of addressing these issues will be established.StandardsKudler Fine Foods has one objective in mind; enhance productivity. This simple request is to be done by upgrading and connecting all of their networks and making it the same throughout each location. We will take each independent network, or LAN, and connect them to a Wide Area Network (WAN), which will allow seamless integration for all systems. WANs are designed to connect systems that are located in different areas. This enhanced network system will allow KFF to become more interconnected and increase productivity.
