This chapter is quite interesting because it teaches me a lot of Equal Employment Opportunity laws that I really should be aware of when it comes to business scenarios, such as Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, and so on. One of the Acts that sticks into my head is Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978. I really think the managers should not discriminate against this group of people. Instead of having them resign from the job, forcing them to take a leave of absence, or refusing to provide them disabilities or medical coverage for pregnancy, the company should create some special benefits for working women in such condition, for instance, assisting them with medical coverage, or having some priority accommodation for them to easily move around and work, etc. Having pregnancy is not an easy thing for women, thus, they should be treated more special than normal, I mean, in the very good ways, not in the bad ways, as long as they can maintain their ability to work the same as before. Furthermore, these women need money to cover some of the expenses for pregnancy such as regular check-up at hospital, medicine, nutrition milk and food, and so forth. Therefore, if they lose the current job while pregnancy, this will create a lot of difficulties for them, as they dont have enough capital to take care of their current situation. Furthermore, as I read along the chapter, I come to learn the process of filing the discrimination charge, which is come handy when I need it, such as I have to file the charge within 180 days of the day it occurred, notify the employer with the filed charge, and both parties have to prepared to support their beliefs or actions. Overall, this is an important chapter to read as it contains a lot of essential laws to protect us from being discriminated in the work place.
