Information Technology Assignment
This is a two part assignment. Be sure to complete both parts.
Part 1: Research recruiting and retention strategies at three different companies. What distinguishes one company from another in this area? Are strategies such as signing bonuses, tuition reimbursement, and business casual dress codes standard for the new technology workers? What strategies appeal most to you? Summarize your ideas in a two to three page paper, citing at least three references.
I find tuition reimbursement and paid time off as one of the more attractive perks that companies can offer. J.M. Smucker who produces Smuckers jams and jellies has a 100% tuition reimbursement program with no cap on how much the employee can use annually. For me, that’s a very nice benefit for a company to offer. Coincidentally Smucker’s ranked 6 in 2005 for best companies to work for according to CNNMoney.com. Another very nice perk from a company called Engage direct Mail corporation, they believe that employees should have time off more time off than the average 2-3 weeks that most companies offer. Engage offers their employees 60 days per annually. The company also offers other perks like laptops and salary bonuses for department quarterly performance. Also, before the 90 days of probation is up they really look at the employee and research if the employee is right for the company? I think this may be a double edge sword but at least the company cares enough to thoroughly look into the hiring process. Last year I had put in for a new position with my company (NJVC) and when I was offered a new position with the same company the recruiter congratulates me on being a new employee. At that point I was with the company for 4 years! I know it’s not that big of a deal but I would think she would have done her research enough to know that I was an employee already with the company!
I’ve discussed a few perks that I find very accommodating but now I want to talk about some of the coolest perks in the biz when you work for Google. Well where do I start… maybe you’re in the middle of an important project and only have a few minutes and desperately need a haircut before the next meeting don’t worry it’s free and onsite for Google employees. I mean that just the tip of the iceberg. There’s also a free gym to use with the newest equipment small pools with a current to keep it interesting and trainers available for free. What about food they also have a free cafeteria with international cuisine ranging from Japanese, Italian and of course American to keep our taste buds excited! Oh I can’t forget the nap capsules either! Yes, that’s right you can nap in these small pods and sleep away the stressful job woes! Google also has an electric car loaner policy just in case you have to run out for a few hours during work! What benefits and lastly another benefit that seems
