One of the songs I chose to write about deals with racism. The song is called Changes and it was written by a famous rapper by the name Lesane Parish Crooks also known as Tupac Amaru Shakur. He was the greatest rapper of all time he had a lot of respect from the hip hop culture most of his songs dealt with what African American people go through and society. The song Changes talks about racism, drugs, and war.
In the beginning of the song, he starts to ask him self a question “is life worth living should I blast myself?” The reason why he asks himself that question is because he feels that the main stream public (people of European descent) will not accept him because of his background. That affects his life style if he is going to get a job in many businesses or corporations which are owned by the mainstream public, how he is being perceived meaning as lowlife, if he is going to survive in this kind of racist world that he lives in. All these thoughts make his life miserable so he feels that he is fed up with that kind of life. Even if they do accept him, he will still feel like he is being treated unfairly because he is an African American. He feels like just because he is African American he most likely would get laid off from the job or fired for some stupid excuse as an example. African American people have dealt with a lot of problems in America in the past with racist Jim Crow laws, no voting rights, literacy tests, when they got their voting rights, lynching of black, and etc. Then he goes by talking about how he is tired of being poor and that he will go to the extreme level to get any money any way he has to. The only possible way he could support himself is by stealing from other people or selling drugs to people. The other thing he brings up is how police men do not care about black people. He feels that when a police man kills a black person people look up to him like he did something heroic. I feel like this statement signifies to the audience that some police men are racist because they see blacks as a more criminal type person out all the races in the U.S. Then he states that let the drugs be sent to America and the weapons so the blacks can sell these drugs and kill each other. How ever, he also states that he got love for his black men and that they need to come together. Black people should start making some changes instead of killing each other everyday over nonsense like for example money, drugs, women, gangs, and jealousy and try to make the world a better place to live in. At the end of the first part in his song he states how he would love to go back in time when he was a child and play with his friends. That sentence talks about how when you are young, you really do not have any problems because kids are always stress free. They dont need to think about how they going to survive tomorrow, racism, and other things that get you worrying and stressed because they are being taken care of by their guardians who worry for them. After the first part the chorus comes in the song and it talks about how things are just the way they are and that they will never change. Basically the first verse of the songs talks how it is not easy to grow up in a drug infested and violent hood without realizing what is going on around you and before you know it its a part of your life because you see all this money from drugs, gambling, and prostitution. When you are raised like this you become immune to this gangster life style and it becomes apart of you. A part that makes you depressed and exhausted feeling there is no way out except death. Later on you feel like you cannot take this lifestyle anymore and you feel like you need start making some changes. Like in spite all of this going on around you the drugs, racism, unfairness, and etc you should never give up and keep going make changes in your life style. Be who you want to be and strive for the best. Hoping one day the mainstream society will accept blacks how they except their own and blacks will stop being the way they are now selling drugs, killing, being poor mayhem in their streets from gang violence and etc.
The second part of the song, Tupac mentions how he see no changes all he sees is racist faces which he refers to as racist people. All the hate among different races makes people hate each other and go against one another. Tupac wonders what it would take to make all the people come together and love each other. He feels like if you take
