PARENT TEACHER CONFLICT RESOLUTION INTERVIEW
Parents and teachers are responsible in educating children. There has to be a functioning relationship between the teacher and parent in order to nurture student learning. Every so often conflict arises between teacher and parent concerning a childs educational progress. The teacher blames the parent and the parent blames the teacher.
In January, a conflict amidst a language arts teacher and parent was beginning to escalate when the teacher sent home a warning notice about a student being in jeopardy of failing. When the parent received the notice, she was dismayed and wanted to know why she was not aware of the problem sooner. Upon communicating with the educator, the parent is told that the child was given the chance to improve and was showing progress. However, he was not turning in all homework assignments and not passing test, which is the reason for receiving a D.
The mother retaliated verbally to the teacher that she does not send homework home because whenever she asks her son about homework he says he has none. The teacher then informed her that she gives her students homework at least three to four times out the week. It is the child responsibility to complete those assignments. She also conversed to the mother that she would be willing to send her an email of homework assignments on the day it is given, Mom agreed. The teacher also stated the student is in 7th grade and he needs to take responsibility as well. In addition to emails, the student will be responsible for bringing the notebook with assignments to be completed. This will ensure that mom is aware of all assignments.
After the discussion with the parent, the student grades still did not significantly improve and the mother sent an email to the teacher inquiring about her sons performance. The teacher informed her that her son average had gone up from a 60 percent to a 67percent. The child was still not passing exams due to the lack of studying. The parent stated that she did not have the opportunity to check emails every day but knew that her son was completing homework assignments. She was signing the notebook whenever he remembered to bring it home. On a number of occasions, he had forgotten it in his locker at school. However, she would sign the homework. In a return email, the teacher replied the homework was not the concern. The student was not passing test due to lack of studying. She should not take total responsibility for him not studying because she held to her agreement. The child was being irresponsible by leaving the folder so often and on the nights that required him to study. This infuriated the parent and she replied with an irate email blaming the teacher of calling the student
