Baby Blessing
By Erica Lynch
“If I could have anything in the world, it would be a baby. I would do or give anything to be a mother,” stated Rebecca Johnson. Those were once the words of a woman yearning to be a mother. Miraculously, this womans dreams and prayers were answered over a dinner at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Texas.
Rebecca Johnson, Deputy Sheriff of Summit County Police Sheriffs Office in Colorado, was sitting down at the Spaghetti Warehouse eating dinner, when her dream began to come true. She was with Detective Kenny Martin, and Mark Johnson, Assistant Principal of HHS. The three were in Texas to participate in a NASRO conference, which is a seminar for police officers and other administrators.
As the three were sitting there, a pregnant waitress waited on them. Rebecca said she felt something in her heart to start up a conversation with the girl, so she asked the woman when her baby was due. The woman politely said September, and the conversation went on from there. The woman then told Rebecca that she wasnt planning on keeping the baby, and had already picked a family for her unborn child.
Though it seemed that with those words, Johnson would lose all hope, once again her instinct told her to maintain a relationship with this girl. Johnson then told the waitress that she was looking to adopt. She said, “I wouldve adopted that baby in a second,” stated Johnson. Slowly, but surely, that is what Johnson did.
For the rest of Johnsons stay in Texas, she kept in touch with the pregnant waitress, and they began a friendship over a short period of time. After getting to know the woman and her family, Rebecca realized that she now wanted this baby more than ever. The woman also realized that she had now found the perfect baby for her unborn child. She told Johnson that the married couple that was planning on adopting her baby wasnt right for the child. She then asked Rebecca if she would want to adopt her baby. Rebecca of course said yes, and stated that was the happiest and moment in her life.
Since Rebecca didnt live in Texas, she went back to her home in Colorado. Though she remained in Colorado, she kept in touch with the pregnant woman. About two months later on October 23, 2005, the baby was born. Rebecca received no call from the woman.
