When I reflect on the gravity of this statement in cognizance of my own possibilities, I cant help but think of self-imposed limitations and my strong desire to overcome them. In short, this profound statement is a great motivator–a phrase that will help catapult me through barriers that I might have placed on myself. Therefore I can only grasp diversity in relation to this truth that I have come to accept. To me, diversity is a force that I am contending with, one that motivates me to show my distinct talents and profound convictions. I dont want to just be a component of a diverse institution, but rather I want to be a person who helps define that diversity. Therefore, diversity exists as a part of me as I am a part of it – because it contributes to my thoughts, drive and motivation.
Motivation is a term that has been over-saturated and regurgitated without any regards to its actual meaning. It is the inducement of strong moral pressure that causes an individual to act upon positive influence. Inspiration, curiosity, and desire are all building blocks of a product–that product is motivation. Motivation is not just conceptual; in fact it exists physically just as it does abstractly. To be motivated, one needs to be a person of consistent action. Throughout my educational career, Ive always been one to second guess myself based off the success of others. However, this is where I drew the line and told myself that other peoples success should not intimidate me. Instead, it should motivate me to excel and help others break through their limitations as well, by believing in themselves and their impact.
This has been evident through most of my experiences in life: for every good deed, there is a reaction that will open your mind, and deepen your will to live interminably. At times in my life, it was simple inspiration that carried me through my own doubts. When I initially started working for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) of my town, I hesitated to engage and care for the patient in a comfortable and professional manner because I was not confident in my own capabilities. Nevertheless, one night I was dispatched to transport an elderly woman with an apparent hip dislocation to the hospital. As soon as we arrived on scene, her pain-stricken shouts led us to her. We safely immobilized
