1) Over the turn of the century, a great deal of tension drastically coated the
Canadian and American relations. 2) A tragic event that triggered a sequence was the 9/11. 3) In September 11, 2001 a group of terrorists called Al- Qaeda hijacked four American planes – which later on was flown through the twin towers. 4) The impacts of this event was not only felt by Americans but by whole world, including Canada. Trades between U.S. and Canada became limited, and strict security measures were enforced concerning our borders. 5) U.S. governments security refinement created a gap in their relationship with Canada. 6) A Canadian citizen, Maher Arer was stopped and caught on an American airline, because his name was mistakenly on the “No Fly List” (a list of people suspected as terrorists). 7) Canada deemed that Maher Arer was wrongly accused, and is uninvolved in any act of terrorism. This objection created sparks between Canada and America. 8) Americas determination to eliminate danger persuaded them to should have no one stand against it. 9) At the age of fifteen, Omar Kadhr – another citizen of Canada – was detained by the Americans for allegedly bombing U.S. forces in Afghanistan; He was sentenced eighteen years of imprisonment under the U.S. government. 10) Canadians believed that his rights were violated and should be released to compensate his basic needs. Canadas disapproval further separate us from America. 11) These events aroused tensions between Canadian and American relations – tensions that will likely set up limits, barriers, or even complete isolation from Americas expectations in Canadas fidelity.
