Spiritual Suppression
Hades was the son of Cronus and Rhea. Cronus swallowed all of his children until one day, Rhea hid from her husband that she had a young boy. This young boy was Zeus. He grew older and stronger and then came to release his other brothers and sisters which included this group was Hades. In the war to, Titanomachy, Hades received a helmet of invisibility from the three Cyclops. The three brothers defeated their parents and their uncles. They then split the earth in thirds. He was chosen to rule the underworld while his two brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, ruled the upper worlds and the sea, respectively. Hades was the referred to as the “rich one” because possessed the riches of the world.
Hades fell in love with a young woman named Persephone and abducted her to live in the underworld with him. Her parents, Zeus and Demeter, especially Demeter did not like this. Zeus then made Hades free Persephone but before she left he had her eat a pomegranate, exactly six seeds, and she was unable to leave the underworld. Seeing her mothers depression, she convinced Hades to allow her to live in the land of the living for two-thirds of the year and the other one-third with him. Famine (winter and fall) occurs during the months that Persephone is gone and Demeter grieves in her absence.
The only other living people to actually venture to the underworld were heroes like Hercules and Odysseus. When they visited they were not pleased at what they saw. In Odysseus to the underworld, he met Achilles and they spoke a few words.
Because of Hades dark and morbid personality, he was not well liked by other gods and mortals. Hades was not evil, he might have been cruel and mean but he was still always just when it came to ruling the underworld. Also more commonly associated with Hades was his chariot with four coal black horses, that sitting along side him was usually Persephone.
Hades became very angry if anyone tried to leave his domain. This in return angered Hades, causing him to punish all of human kind. These became know as Earthquakes. Anytime sometime tried to leave, he would began one. This resulted in distress in the land above. Zeus tried to reason with him and to have him stop, but Hades was unstoppable. He felt that if they came there in the first place, they should stay for good.
It all began one evening when Hades was discussing with a fellow demon, speaking in his raspy voice he stated, “I am really tired of Zeus thinking he can just send people down here and take them back. I will not allow that, that is not what I am here for. I want people to know that they can push me around and think that they can get away with it.”
The demon, Jucele, replied back, “I agree with you. How did you end up down here anyways? It seems like you got the hardest job of all. You cant help that you are trying to put people were they belong. If they dont like the way you run things then they should try and run it on their own. They would really see how difficult it actually is and that not everything is a piece a cake. There is always something that they have to complain about.”
“Yes I know and I only wish I could think of a plan to make them regret even asking to go to the land above. I must punish them somehow. They must think I enjoy punishing them but it seems it is the only way they learn. I dont know but I do know that everything is just so confusing” said Hades in deep thought.
The next day Hades was trying to talk to Zeus before he took any action. Of course, Zeus could not listen because he was so hard headed. Many thought that Hades was difficult but it was only the way Zeus had put him off to be. Zeus voice boomed out, “Well if you do not think it is fair then maybe you shouldnt rule at all. I can not fix everything for you.”
Hades responded back while trying to stay calm, “It is not them, it is you. You think you can alter all of the rules but you cant. I will not let you get away with it. If you would just let me rule the underworld by myself, then we would not have these problems. I am going to ask you to back off and if you dont there will be consequences for your people to suffer. I hold no remorse for you or them.”
“Well I am sure whatever you have in mind will not work, so you can try to attempt your “world domination”.” said Zeus, furious that Hades would try and contradict him in such a situation. After being fed up with discussing the situation Zeus left the underworld.
The next day Hades noticed that his count had dwindled. It seemed to happen everyday and he knew Zeus way trying to get back at him. Little did Zeus know, but he would soon get his revenge with him. Hades called a meeting
