Samson and Gilgamesh Comparison and Contrast
In every culture, there are heroes. Though they are different, they also have
similar characteristics. Two such heroes are Samson, a biblical hero and Gilgamesh, from
the Mesopotamian epic. Both Samson and Gilgamesh share similarities in that they both
were warriors, were brave, and both men believed in a god or gods. However, they do
differ in wisdom, loyalty and mercifulness.
Samson and Gilgamesh, two heroes from the ancient world, have lots in
common. One common thing they both shared, is that they were both warriors.
Gilgamesh, was the king of Uruk in the lands of Mesopotamia. He went on journeys and
quests to fight evil creatures, monsters and his enemies. For example, in the Epic of
Gilgamesh, it tells a story of Gilgamesh going on a quest with his friend Enkidu, to get
rid of an evil monster, who guards the forest and Gilgamesh fights it bravely. Samson,
who is from the Bible (the book of Judges), is a great warrior as well. According to the
Bible, he was a man who was chosen by God, who had mighty strength and who fought
other tribes.
Two heroes from the ancient world, Samson and Gilgamesh have similarities
such as bravery. Gilgamesh, according to his epic, was a very brave man, who did
dangerous things that threatened his life. For instance, he went to find a way to have
immortal life, even though it was dangerous and could have killed him. He went on
journeys to far lands, he survived the big flood they had a long time ago, according to the
epic. Samson, was a very brave man too. He didnt fear anything or anyone; because of
the power the Lord gave him. In that they are both brave and fearless, we
know they share a similar characteristics.
Finally, the characteristic the two men share is that they both believe in God or
gods. Gilgamesh, as the reader can see from the Epic of Gilgamesh, believes in multiples
of gods. He talks to them and asks them questions or advises. The gods and goddesses
give orders and commands. Gilgamesh worships them and respects them. Samson, from
the bible, believe in God and he believed that no other god exists. He only believes in the
Lord,
