1. Hello. I am Park Sohyun and she is 손영리. ~조원소개. We are going to present to you our project called 뽀숑. We named it 뽀숑 because we hope every women feel fresh when they are in period. This project aims to support sanitary napkins for girls from lower income family through vending machine business. Maybe some of you (about half of you) might think this business is unrelated to you. But I want you to think like this. This is probably your sisters, your girlfriends or wife’s, or your current or future daughters issue. I would appreciate it very much if you listen carefully to this announcement as much as you care for them.
2. The following is our table of contents.
3. We have found two significant problems around us. First, buying sanitary napkins can cause shame to women especially when they are buying in the public spaces. 87% of women have a experience of feeling embarrassed when they buy sanitary napkins, and the biggest reason for that was that they had to show that they were buying to other people, especially males.
4. The second problem, which is much more serious, is that there are still girls who cannot have sanitary napkins during their periods in Korea. Some girls don’t go to school, and others use tissues and other stuffs during the periods. This has currently become a big social issue in Korea.
5. More specifically, the average cost of a sanitary napkin for a woman during her lifetime is $ 5,500. Approximately 100,000 female students are suffering from unexpected sanitary napkin prices. More than 40% of these girls have used replacements of sanitary napkins such as toilet papers.
6. As it became a social issue Korean government has decided to support the girls with free sanitary napkins
7. However, it has three major problems. First of all, the policy puts the girls into shame. In order to receive the sanitary napkin, it is necessary to go to the community service center and submit the paper with personal details to prove that she is from a lower-income family, which could make the girls decide not to get the supplies. In addition, they provide only two types of sanitary napkins for the girls, while girls need different types of sanitary napkins when they have little or heavy menstrual bleeding, and when they sleep. Therefore, our project aims to compensate the defects of government policy through adequately supporting the girls.
8. Our final mission is “Guarantee of fundamental human rights through meeting the needs of female requisites”.
9. In order to carry out this mission, we are launching the business that promotes convenience of Women, help poor girls from low-income family and share love.
10. To briefly introduce our business model, we gain revenues from the vending machine business and we buy the sanitary napkins for the girls with the profit. The Pauchon mobile application, which we will explain more about later will play important role through the whole business process.
11. We will design a special vending machine called “뽀숑 머신” in which we will put items for menstrual period.
12. The vending machine business generally has the five following advantages. The first advantage is that we can start the business with comparatively small capital, most of which goes into buying the vending machine and supplies. It does not require labor costs of cashiers and the store clerks which can also save a lot of money. In addition, we don’t even need much space. We can install the machine in less than 3 square meters so we can more easily place them even in busy streets with a large floating population. Plus, girls do not have to feel embarrassed when buying napkins through a machine because they are located inside the women’s bathroom.
13. These are the products and price listings of the vending machine. The main products including the sanitary napkin and toilet paper, were selected mainly for the menstrual period. The type of sanitary napkins are large, medium sanitary pad for zero point seven five dollars and tissue paper for one point three dollars. We also give customers the product with a little chocolate on each purchase, hoping that their menstrual periods to be “sweeter”.
14. And we will attach a small sticker on our sanitary pad, so that consumers get to know our sincerity, and recognize that our company is a social enterprise.
15. We also plan to give a small chocolate so that the consumers may feel happiness when they buy our product and use our machine.
16. We are going to buy the machines, redesign the exterior in lovelier way and will cooperate with the sanitary napkin manufacturer to reduce our cost.
17. To elaborate more about our partnership with the manufacturers, it works in this way. We get discounts for sanitary pads from $0.15 to $0.06. Through our investigation, we figured out that it’s the least price we can buy. In turn, they can be part of our stories. We will write their names on our vending machines and help them spread the image that they are helping the low-income girls.
18. This our final vending machine design.
19. We considered where to locate our machines, and we found out that it would be nice if we contact with girls’ school, especially EHWA Female Schools. And if we locate our machines in the EHWA schools, including high school and university, we would pay seven hundred dollars for a month as a rent.
20. Our essential business is that based on our monthly sales, we will provide ‘girls box’ to low-income girls.
21. The box consists of four types of sanitary pads for 2 month use. Four types are overnights, large, medium, panty-liners. And each box costs five dollars.
22. Also, in our essential business, we will use an application to recruit girls, and certify if the girls are really low-income or not. We will limit the number of girls about 50 at the beginning of the business, but we will try to enlarge the beneficiaries.
23. Next is the market of sanitary pad. There are three representative elements in the sanitary pad market. At first, there is a big problem in current sanitary pad market. In Korea, the price of sanitary pad rises every year. So, because of this high price, the low-income girls cannot afford to buy sanitary pads.
24. Second is that the sustainability of sanitary pad market. The consumption of sanitary pad in a year is about 450 million. And the market size of sanitary pad
