Thesis- Not only is surviving cancer and huge defeat, but beating cancer and returning to the top of your sport to win the most prestigious race in the world six times in a row is a miracle. Lance Armstrong is one of the most recognizable athletes in the world not only from his athletic abilities but also the fact that he had battled testicular cancer. Lance is a hero and an inspiration to all those who are dealing with cancer issues.

I. As a young child was always very competitive. He won his first triathlon when he was thirteen and went on to become a professional at sixteen years old. Moved to Colorado and trained with the Olympic Cycling team and from there moved up the ranks and eventually was the US National Amateur Champion, soon after he turned pro. In 1996 was ranked the number one cyclist in the world.

II. In October later that year he was diagnosed with testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and his brain. His chances of survival were less than 50-50. He began an aggressive treatment of chemotherapy that would give him the chance of a full recovery. The treatment started to work and slowly Lance allowed his thoughts to return to racing.

III. His recovery seemed miraculous but actually returning to racing felt unfathomable. The
