According to a book (Arthur, 2012) there’s a great deal of talk concerning the merits of first impressions. Usually the discussion has to do with how applicants can impress their prospective employers, and later how they come across as employees once they start work. No doubt this is important, but so too is the first impression employers make on their newest employees. Employers sometimes forget that an effective employer-employee relationship requires effort on both ends; that effort starts on day one. It can take very little time to form an opinion about someone, yet what happens in the span of a few hours, minutes, and even seconds can leave an indelible mark. The case study “Misdirection and Disorientation: A lasting First Impression” addresses the importance of the first impression companies provide on the first work day of new hires.This case study aims to serve as a goal to provide the reader management view of the importance of first impressions and provides the reader with indications on how organizations should engage new employees on the first day of work. This case study paper includes the study and critical analysis problems and solutions of first day impressions based on scientific articles and published researches, and the book “The 2020 Workplace”. As a result, in general it intends to summarize the problems, issues and solutions of “first day impressions”, and help the reader understand the approaches and changes that companies should implement within their companies in order to motivate engage and retain talented employees on the first day of work. This paper will provide a summary of what companies should do in order to accommodate and maintain new employees.
