Justifying Abortion
There are many different views on abortion, on the one hand some
christians may feel abortion is never justified as all foetuss are
made in the image of God and it should have its chance to live. Each
baby is planned by God and he decides when the potential life is
concieved is born and when it dies. Roman Catholics agree with this
view and disagree with abortions in all circumstances apart from if
there is an extremely valid reason such as the baby will cause harm to
the mother and the mother and baby will not survive there is no point
in causeing a double death when one life can just be taken.
On the other hand some christians believe abortions should be
justified sometimes. It should be acceptable in certain conditions but
there must be a valid reason for it to happen such as if the pregnancy
was to carry on then the mother or child will die or be handicapped.
The Church of England agrees with this view they do not encourage it
but it is seen as acceptable as they teach that this disision should
be left to the consciences of those involved.
There again abortion can be seen as a form of murder and murder is not
justified so why should abortions be justified? Abortion can be seen
as murder if you believe that the life starts at conception or within
the period that abortions are allowed. One of the 10 commandments is,
“You shall not murder” but some christians feel this quote is only
anti-abortion if you believe life begins at conception. As it is only
murder if the feotus is classed as a life.
Consequently there are strong arguments for both side. Babies are a
gift from God and a person so why should it be killed. But why should
a women have a baby that will destroy her life and could also affect
her life. Surely if the baby is to have a bad life such as not enough
money to live or suffer mentally or physically then it may be better
to be aborted. This option may be classed as more loving as it is
preventing the baby from future suffering.
