Our group members are Rosa Han, Gina Chang, and Fiona Feng. We have selected Starbucks as the organization to be researched for this project. Starbucks is the most well known brand for coffee and is one of the largest coffeehouse companies in the world. It is established in Seattle, Washington in 1971 by Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker who were found by Alfred Peet. Currently, the CEO is Howard Schultz. It has almost 20,366 stores in more than 61 countries; almost 1,300 stores in Canada. According to the data from 2008, the revenue of the company was $10,383 billion. They sell drip brewed coffee, espresso-based hot drinks, and other hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, sweet pastries, and merchandises such as mugs and coffee beans. Starbucks-brand ice cream, beverages and coffee beans are also available at grocery stores such as Loblaws, Metro, Food Basics, etc.
First, our group members researched on Starbucks information and the Porters five forces separately. During our first group meeting, we shared our research information that we found and realized that the most difficult part was putting all the information together. There are several aspects of Starbucks that our team plans to focus on. They are demand, supply, price, and quantity. These economical aspects will help us understand and analyze Porters five forces easier.
As a result, Gina and Rosa are responsible for doing the research on the company and work on the description. Also, researching on the demand, supply, price, and quantity related to Starbucks. Since not all the listed factors apply to our company, the other task for each of us is to find out as many factors as possible.
