An idea about power that is commonly held today is upperclassmen in school systems who have power over the underclassmen. Such as on sports teams when the underclassmen are hazed, or they get less playing time when upperclassmen complain. Upperclassmen have an advantage over underclassmen because they are older. I dont believe that they should because, for example, in a high school setting or college setting, students are all mostly around the same age, and the upperclassmen arent much older than the underclassmen. They just have more experience and have already been at the stage that the underclassmen have been at. When it comes to sports, if an underclassman is better than an upperclassman, they should be able to get more playing time without being criticized by the upperclassmen and having to deal with problems when they get mad. Situations where underclassmen are being told what to do and being forced to do something they dont want to, is something that I believe upperclassmen shouldnt have the power to do. For instance, when the upperclassmen make the underclassmen clean up after practices, or the underclassmen get last pick for anything. I just think that everyone should be equal; yes we should pay more respect to them, but they should also be less harsh on people younger than them just because they think they can.
Sometimes they think they have too much power and act like a coach or a teacher and think theyre better. They should instead just realize what theyre real power is, which is to be able to help the underclassmen and act like role models to them. Even though theyve went through those stages and believe that now it is their turn to have the power, they should remember how they felt when they were pushed around by the upperclassmen.
