Ethics EssayShawanda D. RobinsonETH 316 Monday, July 13, 2015Joseph DemarkEthics EssayEthics play a major role in everything that we do, it dictates how you respond in a manner that society feels is acceptable.  People have always associated ethics with what you or a person is feeling at the moment, this is not always the case. This essay will provide the similarities and differences between virtue theory, utilitarianism and deontological ethics, a behavior that fits the concept of each theory, different in how each theory addresses ethic and morality and personal examples to explain the relationship between virtue, values and moral concepts in relation to one of the theories. Similarities and DifferencesWhen we say, virtue ethics, most people draw a blank. When you say what is right or wrong, people tend to understand it a little better. Virtue ethics is a character-based ethic that views a person’s action over a period of time and it does not reflect a single action. This theory has a goal of achieving the highest level of achievement in both personal and professional aspects of your life. Utilitarianism theory pertains to an action that is right, morally. It creates a positive result for the best interest of the people. Deontology is a moral theory that has emphasis on a person’s duty to do the right thing or take the appropriate action and not think about the repercussion of what you are doing.  From the descriptions you can tell that all three of these theories deal with a person’s perspective and how they react to a situation.  These theories also bring out the best in a person, by having them make a moral decision.  What you may think is morally right; others may think is a selfish act, where you are not concerned with the greater good of others. If we look at deontology it has a great deal with weather the action is morally right. The results can be harmful to the majority, but is still considered to correct in the eyes of society. Personal ExperienceI started working my human resource assistant position seven months ago. Within three months, the human resource specialist decided that after two years, neither the position nor the company was what she was looking for. This news did not come as a shock to the manager or the director. The only thing that concerned them was who would take on her responsibilities, how fast could they quickly pick up the task at hand, and would they be knowledgeable of human resource’s rules and regulations. They decided to give some of the task she did to me, the task came easy to me. As the position went unfilled for a month, they decided to give me the position. I was hesitant about the position because, the position had been proceeded to be very difficult and time consuming, I took the position. After working in the position for two months with little to no knowledge, I decided that the position was not for me and asked that that I only take on portions that I felt conformable with and also assist with the search for the replacement.
