The Role of Supervisor
The supervisor is an important role in the company and acting as the bridge between the top management and the working staff. He controls the communication flow within the company. When the order is received from the top management, the supervisor will delegate the job to the working staff. He should deliver the message, provide the ongoing guidance and support to the staff to complete the task and achieve the standards set by the management.

Moreover, supervisor is directly responding to the employee need, problem, and satisfaction. He is responsible for gathering and communicating the staffs requests to the management. A good supervisor places a high priority on coaching the staff. He should involve in establishing suitable goals, action plans and time lines of the staff.

The Details of Evaluation
One of the most challenging duties of supervision is evaluating the staff performance. The evaluation refers to the periodic review or assessment of the staff performance during a given period. The cover period could be as short as few hours on a special assignment and daily evaluation or as long as a yearly review. The content of the evaluation can cover the countable aspects of the staff performance, such as the attendance and quantity of work done. It could also, on the other hand, cover the uncountable aspects like the quality of work done, communication with other colleagues, guest relations etc.

It is very important that the evaluation should always cover both the past and future. It should provide timely and fairly comments on the staffs past performance and on the other hand, should provide goals and future plans to the staff for the next evaluation. After receiving the comments from the supervisor, the staff could then decide improvement goals for the problems and weakness identified by the supervisor. With the supervisors involvement and proper follow up procedures, the commitment to improve by the staff would be greatly increased. The goals would then become a subject for review at the next revaluation and continuous improvement could be obtained by the staff. Promotion and merit raise should be awarded if the evaluation is positive.

The Benefits of Evaluation
The primary beneficiary of the evaluation is the staff. They can get the feedback and comments on his work performed. The staff may receive appreciation and rewards like salary increment and promotion for his quality performance. On the other hand, he can also notify his weakness and perhaps the ways of improvement from his supervisor.

People may consider that evaluation is only benefiting the staff that is being evaluated, but in fact, the person who is responsible for facilitating the evaluation can also gain from it. The supervisor could not only accumulate the experience in handling all human resources and business issues during the evaluation, but also identify potential workers for advancement. To prepare for future promotion and reduce existing workload, the supervisor can select and train up the capable staff to take over some of his responsibility or even his position in future. Moreover, the evaluator could receive trust and improving relationship with the employees through a constructive evaluation.

The process of evaluation will cause all the participants to consider the current situation and the needs of the company. For example, if the appreciation/ complaint from guests have a significant weighting on the overall
