Childhood and Society
I would like to begin with using a novel, TV program/episode or movie, taking two or three concepts or arguments from childhood and society to consider the following idea: What does it mean that our children are better informed than ever before? That they know what the elders know? It means that they have become adults, or, at least adult-like – a quote from Neil Postman, 1994. What would be the thoughts on the above statement? I would like to write an essay that clearly and logically formulates this prevailing theme in childhood studies. Secondly, I would like to utilize critical thought and my own awareness applying specific ideas and arguments analyzing Being/Becoming from Nick Lees work. By using the above media selection, either Leave it to Beaver or Little House on the Prairie, etc., coorelate this selection as the grounds or samle evidence to elucidate my argument for or against Lees ideas. The paper should be no more than 8-10 pages, double-spaced. Some of the concepts include being and becoming – how the child was guided by the parents, government, media, etc., with the child having no direct imput into his/her progression into adulthood.
