Chapter one
Everyone was silent after an aircraft had flown over the community it was a Pilot in Training he had misread the navigational instructions. The Pilot was released out of the community.
Asher is Jonas best friend, he talked to fast and mixed up his words which Jonas thought was funny. Asher was late for class; he had to tell his explanations frequently.
Jonas Father works at the nurturing center and there is a baby there that was not doing well.
*What does it mean to be released?
Chapter two
His father though that the ceremony of the ones was always fun, the ones got their names and were put in a dwelling.
The twelves are given their assignment for their community.
*What are all the assignments for the twelves?
Chapter three
The newborns name is Gabriel; Jonas father went and looked on the sheet, which was against the rules.
When you are a seven it is against the rules to ride a bike although they do it but not in public.
A comfort object is a stuffed animal that newborns get for the emotional needs.
Jonas stills an apple from the recreational center, which is against the rules.
Lily wants to become a birthmother when she becomes a twelve and her mother tells her that it is just 3 years of giving birth then youd become a laborer.

Chapter four
Jonas has to do his volunteer hours so he can become a twelve and get his assignment for the community.
He bathes the old with Fiona and Asher; they talk about the release of Roberto.
*Why dont they just die instead of being released?
Chapter five
Jonas has a dream of Fiona and him in the bathing room and Jonas wants to bathe Fiona and she just laughs at him.
Stirrings are what the dreams he is having are called.
Jonas gets the pills to stop the feeling he is having.
*Why dont the elders want Jonas to have feelings?
Chapter six
The fours, fives, and sixes all have a jacket that had buttons on the back so they would have to help each other and learn interdependence. The sevens got their jackets with the buttons down the front.
When little girls turn eight they trade their ribbons in for a bike.
Gabriel went home with Jonas father every night because the night staff wasnt very good at paying attention to him.
*Why do the little girls have to wear a ribbon in their hair?
Chapter seven
Jonas was the nineteenth baby born in his year so when they are at the ceremony Jonas is to be the nineteenth eleven called up to the stage to get his assignment.
After the eighteenth eleven was called up, the elders called up the twenth skipping Jonas.
*Why was Jonas skipped?
Chapter eight
The elder apologized for skipping Jonas and she explains why she did. Jonas was to become the new “Receiver of Memory” He was selected for a number of traits he had and was going to have.
*What exactly is the “Receiver of Memory”?
Chapter nine
Lily started he volunteer hours at the Nurturing Center because she already was good at feeding Gabriel.
The previous Receiver of Memory was a girl and they were never to speak her name in the community again.
Jonas was given his rules for his assignment there is only eight different rules on his unlike everyone elses.
Jonas didnt have to take his medication for his training.
