Paradigm fit
The book Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus, has been very popular ever since it first came out in 1992. Dr John Gray seemed to hit the paradigm of marital complexity by looking at the differences in the way different genders communicate. It states that generally speaking, women are wired more emotional and men are wired more likely to work on issues individually. Men react to stressors more thoughtfully, and women (in general) tend to go off more of their emotional response. (Are you saying this fits with emotional tone and interactional pattern?)
Marital health
Gray doesnt have any chapters specifically targeted at marriage, but all relationships regarding men and women. He does, however, state that once a couple is married, the communication skills need to be even more polished.
Interferences
Gray refers to men as “Mr. Fix It”, and women as “The Home Improvement Committee”. These two titles basically point out the fundamental mistakes men and women tend to make when trying to “assist” their partner in correcting stressor s(pg number here). “Mr. Fix It” has the reaction to try to automatically fix their wife or girlfriends problem instead of just sitting and listening to her vent. Gray states that because women are so verbal about their inner feelings, they just want to know that their men love and are interested in what they are feeling, thinking and even stressed out about( cite pg). In the same mindset, the “Home Improvement Committee”, also has loving intentions in mind, but when women are always trying to “make their men better”, it makes the men feel less like a man and that their women dont respect them as men.
Characteristics for growth
