Mega-Environment Case
Quick Clips is a hairdressing business proposed by Harry Comstock, Jim Chou and Melissa Trifiletti. The business will hopefully cut into an untapped niche within the hairdressing industry in a way that has never been done before, by providing their haircuts at an affordable price yet still remaining up to date with the current styles & trends. Initially the business will be set up in Box Hill, but the plan is to eventually open up some more stores around Melbourne, and then once the business becomes more successful look at franchising out to the rest of Australia. In order for Quick Clips to be successful, all aspects of the business must be taken into consideration and analysed thoroughly. The effectiveness of the business will also depend on how well Quick Clips manages & interacts with both with its internal and external environment. This report will identify certain aspects & challenges from both the mega (external) and task (internal) environments that need to be considered if Quick Clips is to be successful in the hairdressing industry.
Mega-environment
The ability of Quick Clips to be effective especially in the long run, will be largely influenced by what is taking place in their mega environment. Quick Clips needs to identify their key external and outside factors that will be impacting upon them the most. These factors include: socio cultural in particular the values & demographic of the area, economic in terms of the distribution of wealth, legal-political in relation to laws & government policies, and finally international in regards to the threat of new entrants. All these outside forces play a significant role in future of the business and if Quick Clips wants to be successful it will need to not only just understand but effectively manage its mega-environment.
An area of the mega-environment that the business will need to pay close attention to is the socio cultural element. This element deals with demographic on a whole including; their values, attitudes, beliefs and trends of a given geographical area (Bartol et. all 2011). Quick Clips needs to be aware of what type of people they are going to be dealing with and what type of cultures they have in place. As quick clips will initially start up in Box Hill, the business will need to look at the demographic of the area and how varied theses differences are. With Box Hill having a high concentration of different multi cultural & ethnic groups it would be beneficial for the business to try and employ hairdressers from these groups. So that when a customer comes for a hair cut at quick clips, they can feel comfortable knowing that there is someone there who shares a similar culture and background. This can be a critical point of difference between Quick Clips and their competitors and ensure that there is continued return business with their customers.
