Concert Review: On Concert of European Musical Tradition
MUSC 2552 Music Culture and SocietyYu Hoi Wun Clara (s1155034711)Concert Review 2 – On Concert of European Musical TraditionSaacia Pellegrini Percussion RecitalDate: 23 January 2014 Sascia Pellegraini is a free style performer, all of the music in this concert were composed by himself. His mind is full of creativity, he shows his potential on impromptu performance in a concert hall which he was not familiar with, by using different materials beside him as kind of percussion. He didn’t show up on the stage normally at the beginning of the recital, he went to the back stage and hide with his sticks. He started to tap on the floor, mental wall of the concert hall, plastic wall of the balcony, the stage and the seat. He started performing while he was walking onto the stage, it is quite fresh to me. I really appreciate this opening theme. Firstly, it can attract audience simply by clear and distinct sound. Secondly, it can provide the close relationship between performer and audience. He shows us that music should not be only played on the stage, music is everywhere, being around us. Simple and visible materials or element, with groups of rhythms patterns and performing techniques can easily compose a music work. As long as you want, you can produce music by creating rhythm or beat no matter where and how. It is a great transformation of modern music, without any established concept or limitation.Apart from the combination of instruments, I also appreciate the performer as he has made full use of his electronic devices, mac book, by playing videos and sound tracks. Video clip of “Vette_IV” was not edit by colorful image or portrait, it was produced by curve and straight line in black and white color. The video played different sound effects which were imitating things in daily life, such as helicopter, wind, heavy rain or beat machine, at the same time performer were playing his percussion to imitate the context. For instance, while the video was flashing, the performer was playing a rapid rhythm on a glockenspiel. This kind of performance provide visual and auditory enjoyment.
