The selected behavior of not getting enough sleep is to have an insight on what it is like for the sleep pattern of a person not to be normal. It is said to be known as a conditioned arousal or a learned insomnia. Acquiring knowledge of knowing how getting sleep should be important to people because individuals have a tendency to sleep poorly. This may occur when the individual associates various environmental or lifestyle stimulation with an inability to want sleep (Chesapeake Neurology Associates, 2009). Not getting enough sleep is dependent on the function of the selected behavior along with the intrinsic and extrinsic factors.

Intrinsic is a motivation that drives an interest and/or enjoyment in the task itself, it exists in the individual rather than depending upon some kind of external pressure. It is the motivation that is based on taking pleasure in any activities rather than working toward a reward. People are intrinsically motivated mostly engage in a task willingly as well as work to improve their skills, which may increase their capabilities. It could have an attribute to an education factor that can result under the control of and individual. Believing that he or she may have the skill that allows it to be an effective agent in accomplishing the desired goal. Intrinsic motivation can help you be interested in may mastering the thought of turning the television off so that you get enough sleep so that you can achieve any task you want. There are factors when it comes to intrinsic motivation that can also help understand the reason why and individual act.
Predisposing is a factors that may have the tendencies that can innate towards becoming a poor sleeper. This habit may affect an individuals personality, the way a person grows, his or her age, and maybe even a person coping mechanisms. Precipitating, another factor that is usually dealing with the situational events which handles the environmental, emotional stresses, acute medical or psychological conditions that contribute to not getting enough sleep. Stressful events in peoples lives like a loss, medical problem, and financial situations can lead to problems with not sleeping. The events that precipitate in sleepless nights are not necessarily bad. Events such as weddings, a graduation, or purchasing a new car can serve as a precipitating factor. There are some environmental stresses that may serve as precipitating factors. A factor can be remodeling the outside of a house or the heat going out in the winter. When these factors are an influence, not getting enough sleep is usually gone after the precipitating factors are removed.
