INTRODUCTION TO PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING ASSIGNMENT
Nokia And I’Phone
In this assignment I am going to talk about the marketing concept of my favourite product that is Nokia and its latest phone the N95. I will compare and contrast the Nokia N95 with another competing phone that has just been released and that is the Apple IPhone. For both the products I will talk about the 7p’s that are Product, Price, Promotion, Place, People, Process and Physical Evidence. I will compare each of the P’s with each of the product and from this I will explain why Nokia is my favourite product. For each of the product I will also talk more about the marketing concept, principles of marketing and marketing orientation.
Nokia is a company that manufacture’s mobile phones across the UK and sell them through business’s like Carphone Warehouse or through the Internet via websites like there own Nokia web site that is nokia.com or telephoning company’s like carphonewarehouse.co.uk. Nokia have a whole range of phones, ranging from the 1110 to N95 each model enhancing in technology and price. Nokia first handheld phone came out back in 1987, it was called Mobira Cityman 900, back in the 1980’s Nokia use to be called Mobira. The first Nokia phone compared to the latest Nokia phone out at the moment which is the N95 the difference is vast. Nokia is my favourite mobile phone company as they are always enhancing their products to keep up to date with modern day technology and common consumer’s needs. The new Nokia N95 is the most popular Nokia phone of all models that Nokia have brought out. This is because of consumer’s needs, for what the end user is going to use it for. Take for example students, university students, they need certain accessories for university. They require a phone for calling home, music player for on the go, camera for taking pictures on nights out, day to day schedules notes and text message facility to contact friends and family. Basically they need something that has all their day to day needs so it fits in to their lifestyle. The Nokia N95 is ideal for these types of students as all of these accessories are built into this phone. As students look for stylish accessories the Nokia N95 is small and the ability to do the above functions on a small gadget will even more temp them into buying this Nokia product.
There are many more facilities that this phone has and business people are the other batch of people Nokia have targeted. The facility of using Satellite Navigation for on the go business people, E-Commerce the ability to visually view the person you are talking to, the ability to send e-mail and fax message are just some of the facilities that will interest business people for this phone. Business people will also use the facilities that students use such as phoning, sending text messages, music player and as all this is small, smart looking phone business people will have all their “on the go” requirements with them and will be able to fit this gadget into a suite pocket without any problem as it’s small.
Other type of users maybe sole Nokia consumers, membership people, meaning people who only buy and use Nokia products or phone. These types of people will wait for Nokia to bring out the latest phone with the latest technology before buying it, even if another company has already brought it out.
