Philosophy Essay
The question you require us to answer for this journal is one that is so generic and simple, but I have a feeling I know why you are doing it. By the answers you read, you’ll be able to tell almost all you need to know about the values of that person. What you value is what you invest in; your time, thoughts, and inevitably money. If a person pays $500 a month for his brand new car and $300 on top notch insurance, you can reasonably conclude that this person values cars (and probably drives fast.) If a person spends $400 for rent on a run down apartment, but spends 1500 on her hair, nails and wardrobe, I think you can tell what is important to her. 300 million dollars is so much money it’s almost unthinkable. To list the things I’d spend it on is to tell you what I deeply value, so it might be just as productive, and probably more efficient, to list the things that are important to me, and give you reasons why.
When I say I love real estate, please believe me. I watch all programs on HGTV that have to do with buying, selling, or renovating properties. With the money, I’d buy a house. A big house. And it would be mine and there would be no question about it. I would design it to my liking. The kitchen would come equipt the beautiful aesthetic of white cabinetry in contrast with stainless steel appliances, with an island right in the middle, and tall stools near the bar. The living room would be a separate entity, disconnected to the kitchen and dining room because open floor plans don’t give me the same sense of security as a traditional floor plan. The dining room, where my family would eat every night (no exceptions), would be surrounded by four burgundy walls and would be home to a grand dining table. The ceilings, in all areas of my house, would be tall. This reminds me of freedom. My house would have everything my family would need; a play room, theatre, game room, study, office for my husband. My backyard would so extravagant that to call it a backyard would be misleading. I’d want a gazebo with beautiful flowers all around. My land would open to a large forest, where my husband built a $30,000 tree house for the kids. There would be a freeform pool with a fountain, jacuzzi and slide. This is my American Dream.
