Pivotal scenes in About a Boy Will before the Christmas dinner at Marcus´ house. What is he thinking about before he leaves home? Is he nervous? Excited? When Marcus invited Will to the Christmas dinner at his house Will was hesitant at first, he wasn’t planning on spending Christmas with anyone, certainly not Marcus and Fiona. Will then found the conversation depressing because he realized Marcus didn’t want him to be alone on Christmas, he eventually gave in and accepted the invitation. I believe Will also felt bad for declining the invitation. Before attending the dinner, Will was expecting the dinner to be gloomy because he would be surrounded by two lunatic losers. He would to have to sit through one of Fiona’s logic-free lectures and watch her sing with her eyes closed, therefor he wasn’t particularly excited. He preferred spending Christmas by himself, smoking joints and watching videos but he went anyway. I believe, secretly he was relieved that he didn’t have to spend Christmas that way because it struck him that the way you spent Christmas was a message to the world about where you were in life.Fiona´s feelings about having Will over for Christmas dinner. According to Marcus, Fiona didn’t know Will was attending the dinner. Marcus asked his mom if he could invite a friend to the Christmas dinner and she said yes. Marcus believed that she had guessed that it was Will that he was bringing because Marcus didn’t have any other friends, and if he did they wouldn’t be able to come because they would be spending Christmas with their family. Fiona had stopped asking Marcus about him going to visit Will probably because she had giving up worrying about it. Fiona didn’t like Will, when Will attended the Christmas dinner all she did was give him a look, she most likely didn’t want to resume hostilities in front of her other guests. Despite her disliking Will, she bought him a present, a funny one. I believe Fiona felt bad for Will and didn’t want him to spend Christmas alone in his flat. Will´s feelings after he meets Rachel. After meeting Rachel on New Year’s Eve, Will instantly fell in love with her.  Will had remembered every single tiny detail that Rachel had offered him the night they met. He didn’t want her to be his girlfriend because that would mean that he would see her from time to time, that she would have some independent existence away from him, he wanted Rachel to be his wife. He wanted her to be his lover and the centre of his whole world. Will was afraid of not being interested enough for her, so he made it seem as if Marcus was his son. When Marcus told Will that if he really wanted a real future with Rachel she would at some point find out that Marcus wasn’t his real son. Will then, wanting to spend his life with Rachel, told her the whole truth about his relationship with Marcus. That shows a kind of maturity that Will didn’t have before meeting Rachel.Rachel´s feelings after she meets Will. First when Rachel met Will she thought he was a sort of blank, he didn’t do anything, he wasn’t passionate about anything, he didn’t seem to have much to say but when he said he had a kid, that made him more interesting. I believe Rachel really likes Will but after she found out that his kid wasn’t really his kid, she figured out what kind of a person he was, and she was fine with it. She cares about him and gives him great advice when he is struggling with something. They had been dating for weeks before having sex and I think the reason for that is because Rachel really wanted this relationship to last and be mature.
