Interview #1: Self
Q: What kind of student do you believe I am? A: Doing well in school has always been important to me, I am a very hard working student.
Q: What kind of parent do you think I will be? A: I will be a loving and kind parent, raising my children with the same values that have contributed to my own successes.
Q: How successful do you feel I will be in my business/professional roles? A: I believe myself to be a friendly āpeople personā while also managing to achieve the goal at hand, therefor I will be very successful.
Interview #2: Best friend
Q: What kind of student do you believe I am? A: An āAā student, if I ever met one. Your brain is like a computer, processing things so fast. My words to describe you as a student are hardworking and focused.
Q: What kind of parent do you think I will be? A: You will be sweet and loving yet strict with reason. You are educated so youāll be able to teach the children to want to learn.
Q: How successful do you feel I will be in my business/professional roles? A: Some people cave under pressure, not Presley. I know for a fact you can give her a hundred things to do on Friday and by Monday they are done. Presley is an asset in any role.
Interview #3: Acquaintance
Q: What kind of student do you believe I am?A: As your lab partner, you seem to work long and hard on understanding all of this info. You are always so positive that you will do well on tests, which you do!
Q: What kind of parent do you think I will be? A: From the little that I know about you, I think you will be a kind and loving parent.
Q: How successful do you feel I will be in my business/professional roles? A: You are easy to talk to and seem very confident in what you say, those are qualities that I would want in a boss or coworker.

āItās not what you look at that matters, itās what you see”-Henry David Thoreau (Philosblog). It is what you interpret and take from the image rather than the real image itself. In the dictionary, perception is defined as a way of āregarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impressionā. Our different perceptions may contribute to positive communication or differing perceptions may hinder our communications. Creating a perception consists of a four step perception process that we use to attach meanings to our experiences. Step one, Selection: what information or feedback we choose to hold onto. New data is thrown at us every single day, we get to choose what we hold onto and what we want to ignore. Step two, Organization: we take our selected information and use it to grasp and figure out our lives. The data that we chose to keep can either effect us in a good way or it can effect us in a bad way. The data that we collected can be organized to classify others or can even effect our state of mind. Step three, Interpretation: the collected data that we organized is pieced together to interpret different situations we may find ourselves in. Depending on our past experiences, we may view something negatively when in actuality there is nothing negative about it. Finally, step four, Negotiation: this is when each personās perceptions can impact communication. For example, āChildren may say their parents are too controlling, while the parents talk about their children as irresponsible and naiveā (Adler, Rosenfeld, Proctor 66-67) every situation is described differently by each participant. This process allows us to calculate our perceptions as we go through our lives, both with ourselves and with others. Depending on what conclusions we reach through the perception process, we can either be effective or ineffective at communicating with others. These conclusions can affect a multitude of things, including our self-concept and our self esteem.
For this assignment, I had to interview my best friend, an acquaintance, and myself with the same three questions. Then with what answers were recorded, I evaluated the interviews based on perception concepts we have studied.
In Interview#1, with myself, based on the answers, I believe I exhibit a healthy self-concept. Self-concept is defined as, the
