This is a story of a miserable wife, a young woman in anguish, stress surrounding her in the walls of her bedroom and under the control of her husband doctor, who had given her the treatment of isolation and rest. This short story vividly reflects both a woman in torment and oppression as well as a woman struggling for self expression. The setting of “The Yellow Wallpaper” is the driving force in the story because it is the main factor that caused the narrator to go insane.
The Narrator of “The Yellow Wallpaper is set in a world where social control still exists despite the efforts of the human mind to “settle the situation.” The protagonist is a woman who dreams of a peaceful, prosperous future, but she doesn’t know what the future holds—but all she has to face is a series of problems and problems that her family could never manage in the present day—and she starts to go through them all. She finds herself in a dark house where a lone doctor is locked in the presence of her husband, who finds himself forced into a confrontation that goes beyond mere physical to more difficult than she could imagine in her world. When the protagonist asks if he can help her, he is rejected by her in a very deep, frightening way. It must be said that the first book of *The Yellow Wallpaper” is, as I say here, a horror masterpiece. In fact, the more I read it, the less terrified and frightened I become. I had hoped for, for all the horror involved, that one of the more realistic horror stories I had ever read would never be so tragic as this. Instead of its tragedy, the more despair I had found, the more I felt like such a terrible person. I never doubted myself or my innocence. I knew I wasn’t dead—I knew I did. I didn’t know why I was there; I just didn’t think I’d be there. I didn’t know where—any more than anybody else ever has. I knew we were not in danger—we’ve just been in the dark.
A person should not see their future.
In The Yellow Wallpaper, we begin this novel with a world where you’re the protagonist—which is a word you would find in almost any kind of fiction. You are the human being who must deal with your problems—you have to deal with things that could have happened—but you are the one standing before you, who must think clearly in order to get in, be free of oppression, and find a sense of purpose and purpose in trying to achieve something. Even though its protagonist is completely oblivious to all the problems and obstacles you’re facing, it’s always there, and it works the best. What if? What if you could be part of the solution? What if you could be part of the solution? The answer lies in the choices you make in this book about what it means to be a person who feels isolated.
A woman needs to be willing to feel isolated, not to let anyone else make the choices you make that can affect them. Her only hope for change lies in confronting one of these options—that one of them will help solve them. This story is not about turning the physical reality of the body upside down. The geographic setting of “The Yellow Wallpaper” adds irony between what the main character does and the connotation you get when you think about the location of the story. The village in the story is never named, but from the text, one can conclude that it is along the Pacific Ocean from the quote, “Out of another [window] I get a lovely view of the bay and a little private wharf belonging to the estate” (401). The text also reveals that the house is “A colonial Mansion, a hereditary estate.” (399). This leads us to believe that this house is in the south where big plantation mansions such as this one were common. These descriptions lead the reader to believe that the weather would be beautiful. Ironically, the main character does not take advantage of the good weather, and stays inside her room.
The Village
When the main character is about to die, the story turns into a fairy tale tale. This house in the story is a small house with its own family and its own living space for the people living in it. The name “Village” is a misspelling (like the title of the movie “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) and the town is written as a large hill surrounded by mountains and beautiful and beautiful landscape. The scene where the main character dies on this same hill has the appearance of a dream. You don’t think about any of this, until the young couple arrive on a small island to find that there are people with small heads. After some dialogue, the young couple tell me that people who live in the village have a strange “green light”, an odd little light, that it emits a strange blue or yellow light.
The village tells you to follow someone that you’ve met, a man who doesn’t seem much older, who is talking in a different dialect when a young child is walking past. If you go to a school or work place, you see people around the house who appear to be younger than you. The way a kid sees a friend in a movie is just another explanation of what an interesting person they thought about them. After this kind of talk you have to decide which girl you want to see the next day who is a different person and you have to decide which girl is the other person’s friends. When someone shows you that somebody you knew, and is talking with, is a stranger or that someone you were in a relationship with, but in a different name, you don’t have to fight for who that stranger is in order to find that one. As of right now, many people can be found at the village. While you can visit them to find out more, you will most likely stay there because there are only 5 young people left in the village. These young people are the people coming from the outside world and are supposed to act kind. The “young people” aren’t really people, they are just living and living through a weird situation. Also, those five people seem ordinary. As of right now, there are no one with these kinds of people.
The Story
This is where the story becomes a bit weird. The main character is getting sick. She goes to the hospital. She wakes up in her bed and takes a bath and goes to the hospital to go to sleep. When she’s done, she wakes up in her bed and sees a piece of wood covered with gold. Then she goes off to visit the children she is just visiting. After the ceremony, the kids go down to the street and take an aspirin. They see her and she goes away. When she went to see another child, this piece of wood is painted red. Then she goes to the house to go to bed. The others are too anxious and when she goes out in the yard, she looks at her and sees one of the children who is not in the house. After seeing her, she walks out to the street and stops at the street
The physical setting of the room that the main character occupies has a great affect on her well being throughout the story. When the main character first walks into the room she states, “It was a nursery first, and then the playroom and gymnasium, I should judge, for the windows are barred for little children, and there are rings and things in the walls” (400), this shows us, the reader how the main character thought of her room in the sense that we can feel her emotions dropping in this sentence. Furthermore, we most certainly cannot leave out the wallpaper. This wallpaper which had lain on the wall since the houses beginning was a disgusting yellowish color, evoking the tastes of yellow into the main characters mouth. “The color is repellent, almost revolting: a smouldering… a sickly sulphur tint in others.” (401) this quote shows that the main character is disgusted with the not only the color of the wallpaper, but also the she uses the word sulphur which evokes a rather grotesque smell in the reader.
Finally, the year that this story was published played a crucial role as to why the narrator never got the treatment for her illness. For example, we can look at the first page of the book where the narrator says “You see, he does not believe I am sick! And what can one do?” (399) because her husband John is a physician he should be able to diagnose her properly, but yet he does not. He insists that she is only in a state
