Types of Psychological Problems of Responsibility and IrresponsibilityDworkin, Cornblatt, and Small identify anxiety disorders as the first classes of psychological disorders (36). Anxiety disorders are characterized by persistent anxiety, distressing, or maladaptive behaviors. The sub-types of this disorder include Social Phobia, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Acute Stress Disorder (Friedman 2719). Acute Stress Disorder makes a person to experience traumatic situations through either flashbacks or dreams. According to World Health Organization, acute stress disorder is a variation of post trauma stress disorder and it occurs to a person over several periods. Social Phobia, on the other hand, is a type of anxiety in which for instance, a person is not able to deliver speeches in public because of too much anxiety and overwhelming self-consciousness. Dworkin, Cornblatt, and Small explain that according to research, 4.3million Americans are affected by this disorder and thus they are not able to get jobs nor meet new people (43).The second type of psychological problems are mood disorders. Mood disorders are also referred to as affective disorders (Newton 1072); they are characterized by extreme emotions that keep on recurring (Fortinash and Holoday-Worret 33). In these situations, an individual has persistent feelings of sadness or happiness. Halgin and Whitbourne argue that mood disorder are categorized into bipolar and major depression disorders. Major depressive disorder is a disease that affects a person’s body, thoughts, and mood (Heim and Binder 109). It affects various activities such as the manner in which an individual feels about themselves and the way they sleep or eat. Bipolar disorders are also known as manic-depressive illnesses cause extreme change in moods such as hypomania and depression.
