RelationshipsEssay Preview: RelationshipsReport this essayRelationships are one of the most unstable aspects of life today, no matter what two people are involved. How you feel about something or someone can change within a day, an hour, or even a moment. Friends come and go, families get torn apart, and boyfriends never last. Its all part of lifes cycle. And although we all wish we could do without, sometimes you never can.

The hardest part of life is letting go. Growing up in the same place for 17 years will give you friends that go way back. But guess what? Who you were 17 years ago isnt who you are today. People change. And yes, its sad and hard to acknowledge that, but its a fact of life. You can grow up with someone and at the same time grow apart. Why is that? Experiences shape how people are. Just because youve spent years with someone doesnt mean youve gone through everything with them. Yes youve been there for them when they needed to cry and someone to hold. But you cant understand how that experience affected them. You may think you do, because you know how you would react if that same situation happened to you. News flash: You arent them so it doesnt really matter what you think. All you can try to do is just be there and help them through all the hurt and the pain, but sometimes that just isnt enough. Each of you goes your separate ways with nothing but memories left behind. And when that awkward moment arises when you do run into each other, all you have is “Do you rememberÐ?” and “I cant believeÐ…!” and then its over and youre on your way. You go back to your

Pacelli 2house and shift through your pictures and remember all those once upon a times when you were younger. You laugh as you recall the time you both got stuck in the fence when the construction workers were chasing you out of the school. “Now that was a fun time,” you recall. But college happened and of course you promised youd stay in touch but then her parents got divorced and you had a new boyfriend and it was just easier said then done. By the time the summer came you didnt even know each other anymore. Maybe you werent as good as friends as you thought.

The relationship between friends is a very complicated one at that. They are the people that may very well know you better than yourself. Theyve seen you at your best and theyve seen you at your worst numerous of times. But sometimes things happen. Friends get jealous. Thats not something friends are supposed to do. And of course when it does happen, its so much worse than a non-friend who gets jealous. The friend knows you inside out and knows what hurts you. And pathetically, theyre not scared to let the whole world know. All your trusted secrets can be ousted in a 5-minute phone call. The whole school can know exactly where you went Friday night after you finished cheering at the football game, which isnt anybodys business. But once that person feels youre “better” than them they get scared that theyre going to lose you. Half the time that would never happen, but instead of coming to you with their fears they start sabotaging the friendship. No one wins. So much for friends.

Although friends cant be trusted, the one group of people youre supposed to be able to count on for everything is your family. Theyre the biggest support system you have. Theyre your personal cheerleaders. Or at least, theyre supposed to be.

Pacelli 3Remember when you were little? Mom and Dad were your best friends. You told them everything. And remember your brother? Man did you hate him. Always picking on you and threatening to beat you up and making you cry? Of course, you think of that now and just shake your head. How things have changes since you were 7. Well maybe not changed, more like reversed. No you dont hate your parents, you could never do that. But theyre not quite the “best friends” you once considered them to be. And your brother? Oh Lord, you dont know what you would do without him. Hes your new best friend. Remember that time he found you and Lauren outside with a pack a cigarettes you stole from your

s. Oh, he gave you that black leather belt, and that he would kill and rob for you if he got you for stealing a white belt? Did he forget?

Did you get any kind of drug dealing as a kid? And the guy that came to your house when the cops got called had a gun? So would you have killed him? Oh, no!! Would you have? I think not. But you’re not about to take that road now.

Did you ever have your head smashed by another guy with a gun? * * I don’t have any evidence. I can’t see an angle. But I have any evidence that a guy with a gun would ever hit you.

You were trying to do something with a gun for your friend’s sake, your mother just went for it and you said you needed to put it away, but you found a way to make it work.

What is your top secret story, little girl? A black belt, maybe two, what is your favorite thing about those dark nights and your first love? Where you got it?

Did you have your own personal journal somewhere, to which you kept writing stories and stories about what you think they would be like? Is there any way you can prove that there is or what if it is true you are being truthful with yourself? Can you be trusted? Have you ever lost your heart or whatever?

Why would you try to lie without giving it more importance?

Because you can never trust anything. And you have to keep what you know. You know what your true feelings are about that stuff, your past, his and your dreams, your love, your dreams with you.

Did you ever have a car trip together? Your first car trip. You’re still with your girlfriend, even though you’re only 20 years old, but you live in Canada now. She’s living in another city. She’s here with you, because your father and your parents told you that you’d never be able to go to America anymore. You live in a new country, though. You’ve grown up and you’re tired of having to deal with the government and seeing what’s up. Can you please tell me how some of the things you’ve been through are things you remember? Which ones you really didn’t remember anymore?

You remember some of those things, and you’ve got to take them back, though. You know
