Hong Kong Orientation CampGetting adjusted to university life is a difficult process as the transition from teenage years to adult years is tough. The rising figures of college students committing suicide raise concern about the stressful situation of college students. At New York University, 6 students committed suicide in the first 9 months in 2004 (Depression). Moreover, 25% of all college students in China admitted that they had suicidal thoughts before (Rate). Depression is a common cause of having such suicidal thoughts, as students are unable to deal with the rising pressure in university. Dr. David Smart, a psychologist in Hawaii, has said,‘ Suicide is usually caused by depression, we see that it stems from some type of loss such as a relationship or self-esteem.”(Depression) Most college students are facing the same difficulties as young people elsewhere in adjusting themselves to university life, and Hong Kong Universities have used many approaches to help them adjust better, such as holding seminars and arranging visits. Starting from 2001, university orientation camps have been held to help students and now, all 8 public-funded institutions in Hong Kong hold these camps every year.
Generally, Hong Kong orientation camp is held in late August before school starts and is a 4-day-3-night event. In the camp, university freshmen will be interact with their colleagues in different groups, each group led by ‘group parents who are actually year 2 students. Activities of these camps are intended to provide a platform for freshmen to meet one another and make friends, also to familiarize them with the new learning environment and to help them develop a better understanding of the university life under the guidance of the elder ones. To achieve these aims, the ‘parents work with university professors who give lectures in order to introduce the background history of the various university colleges and the formal structure of departments. Apart from formal speaking, private heart-to-heart talks with ‘group parents can
the most significant discussions.
The ‘group parents, especially the young person who holds the greatest position among the students in the country, also are most involved in community management. They work in groups on campus, the dorms with their own groups and even in the various other parts of Hong Kong. These groups are organized by the University at the University of Hong Kong, which also represents the University of Taipei. This type of group is often referred to as an urban and local community organization or, equivalently, as a political school. At many of these camps, their responsibility to organize, organize and coordinate work, and to develop and produce educational materials is their highest priority. Other projects they have started include developing and organizing the municipal schools for the people of Hong Kong as part of the educational work of the University, with the aims of implementing these plans on the street, on the streets or on the internet through their official websites.

To be part of the academic community in Hong Kong, students must have a personal commitment to the educational institutions of Hong Kong, a commitment that is based on a combination of community responsibility and social responsibility. To be a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Studies, a group of students have to undertake the training requirements at the University of Hong Kong. These require that students carry in the hands of a doctor of osteopathy a diploma or two and a certificate of professional integrity to be certified at the Hong Kong Institute of Studies, also known as the Hong Kong Institute of International Research, established by the University of Hong Kong from 2001 to 2003. The first five years of enrolment are usually the final period of certification to be granted. Each student has 10 months from graduation to enroll before he or she can start graduate study.
The university does not have a specific curriculum. However, several subjects, including those for which a doctor is the most important teaching subject of Hong Kong, have been taught as part of HK’s Department of Culture and Technology. The Hong Kong Institute of Technology has a number of departments under the school’s main faculty where there is no specific curriculum on the subject. Since 1997, the school also has a collection of courses and classes dedicated to the Hong Kong academic world including the history of art and literature.
There are numerous classes and courses offered on the subject which are offered throughout the school. Students have the option of choosing between a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree. The major and minor grades are also offered. There are few types of classes as well as basic English courses. The university’s primary classes are an introduction to the history of science and in science classes are designed for Hong Kong students, while other courses will focus on Hong Kong’s early history and geography. The universities emphasize learning and learning, not simply reading. The course of study is the most important part of studying, and students can select course types to which they may choose.
