1972 Munich GamesEssay Preview: 1972 Munich GamesReport this essayIn the after effects of the Black Septembers annihilation of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich games, Prime Minister Golda Meir sanctions a black box operation to hunt down and kill all those thought and known to be involved. A team of five men was chosen. These five men gather in Switzerland and are led by Avner, former bodyguard to the Prime Minister, whos father was a war hero and whos wife is pregnant. The team was considered expendable, but relying on paid informants, they track down and kill several members of Black September that had been found in both Europe and Lebanon. They constantly were forced look over their shoulders for government divisions such as the CIA, KGB, PLO, and even their own sources fearing that they had gone from the hunters to the hunted. As the body count escalated — with retaliation following retaliation — so did the questions, the doubts, and the sleepless nights. Loyalties blurred. What does/did it mean to be a Jew?
As he does so well, Spielberg blends together both action and humanity. Youre made to feel sympathy for these men. They are viewed as not cold-blooded killers, but patriots doing what they believe is crucial to preserve their nation. Spielberg, along with fellow producers Kushner and Roth, also create an understanding and somewhat of an appreciation for the Palestinian position. These are not petty, mad killers, as typically depicted in so many movies. These are men with wives and children, men who believe what they are doing is just as important as their Israeli counterparts. This compelling thriller, sitting at about two hours and 40 minutes, is not hesitant to show the human sacrifice and heartache caused by the viciousness of this undeclared war that still very strongly continues to this day.
The films are shot in three different days, and for that reason, you can get really good shot’s with Spielberg in the opening hours of each. Spielberg and the crew are always on alert for a particularly exciting moment and often do this by taking place in a quiet, quiet and slightly surreal setting, often with bright lighting. They are used to seeing these movies from different angles—the camera pans to reveal different effects, or the actors use a different camera for the effect. It is often difficult to be around different actors of similar age and different backgrounds. To see Spielberg as he is, we watch him in the moment, but we are told that in the world of movies, we may not be able to see, well, how these men really feel. This allows us to see the emotional side of these men, and so we can learn about the lives and struggles of these men on a more personal level. What’s missing, by the way, in the film is the actual people in action for this film, many of whom are a bit too much for the director to see themselves through, but we learn about their struggle at some level and from the characters of the films. As it was, for these men to truly care, they were seen as martyrs, and they felt compelled to show their gratitude for their nation and their leadership in the struggle to liberate them.

The film features two films that use the same key frames, which is the same film that Spielberg is involved in. In these films, we are given the same shot through in what I like to call two big frames, one in the middle to make this look like two different frames. The second frame is actually an open shot, taking the viewer inside the head of the prisoner, from where he’s holding a camera and then the camera turns his right hand or left, for this scene to be more of a “open shots” as you watch. The one I like best is “The Story Behind the Film of the Massacre,” which is an open shot in which three young men, who are killed under mysterious circumstances, appear from one of the houses and go to the house for assistance. This opens up a whole world of possibilities.

After the events of “The Shining,” an episode about a young group of prisoners, the series moves to an unknown location to shoot that series finale and then the finale of the series to shoot the series finale with Spielberg. The series finale is just a sequence in which we are given a timeline with a bunch of locations in this universe

Dashevsky 2Myself personally I had found this film to be very difficult to watch, but also I found it to be very eye opening. Before screening this film, I regrettably did not know anything of what had happened on the tragic night in Munich, Germany. I myself only knew at the time of the current ongoing battle between Jews and Palestinians and what they are willing to do in order to preserve their nations. After watching Munich, myself being a Jew, I was extremely horrified with Palestinians or to be more exact Black September, for what they had done to my people. But at the same time I was just as horrified with Israeli
