All About Me!Hello Windsor Regional Hospital! I’d like to introduce myself as the newest co-op student working in the Public Affairs department of the Windsor Regional Hospital. My name is Nikodem Rybarczyk, and I hail from a large city in Poland called Cracow. I’ve lived in Canada for about 14 years now, however I would definitely consider myself more Polish than Canadian as I am proud of my heritage and culture. In the morning, I attend St. Joseph’s Catholic High School, and am currently in grade twelve. In the afternoon, I am usually somewhere in the Public Affairs office or scrambling around the hospital trying to find information to write stories and report on events regarding the WRH, assigned to me by my amazing supervisor Gisele Seguin. On weekends, I work long hours at Franco’s Pizza trying to provide the best service possible to customers, so basically I’m never bored a day in my life. I aspire to be a journalist someday; however writing articles is only a small portion of what I will accomplish. Journalism to me is very important because of the freedom is allows; you can report on anything you want, whether it is about celebrities, the economy, politics, society, environmental issues, music, culture, etc., and there will always be a market to sell to. Now, people’s interests largely reflect their personality, and I have always thought that the best way for humanity to become peaceful and united is to spread information and eradicate ignorance. There are media outlets that report of issues that have global consequences that the mainstream media does not talk about, and these are often refereed to a ‘alternative media” outlets. I want to the first to push that content into the mainstream; make everybody realize what kind of world they are living in so that people can come together and create a better future for future generations. I plan to one day visit a third-world country and provide them with resources and a service which will make real change amongst the people living there, however I would like to start off with Windsor first!
With that being said, I also like to help people out, especially those without many opportunities in life. I am involved with two non-profit organizations at the moment, one being United Way. The reason I enjoy being with United Way is because they provide care and help towards some of the most disadvantaged people in our society, such as the physically disabled, the mentally disabled, people living below the poverty line, and especially people that are my age who are poor without much control over their situation. These young folks might be very intelligent and could become doctors, engineers, successful businessmen, or people who will change the world for the better, however only due to the fact of how difficult it is for them to get into university or college they may never reach that goal. United Way comes in and lends a hand, and to me that is very important. The other non-profit is Project Push, which is an amazing new program created my Ali Ahmed, owner of Pushers Co. in downtown Windsor. It offers free workshops for students that teach them skills in music, barbering, or journalism. It’s amazing because instead of paying tons of money for an education they might not even gain real experience from, students have access to it for free and are given the opportunity to be mentored by doing work in the field. Mentors that teach the workshops give the students enough skills so that they can move on to perhaps create their own business or start their career at a very young age. I am on the youth board of directors for Project Push, which encourages more people to participate as well as organize events and charities in the city. Helping people in this way is important to build a strong and healthy community, and I believe that if every person involved themselves with at least one organization which strives to help others, the world would be a much better place.
