Oedipus the King and AntigoneEssay Preview: Oedipus the King and AntigoneReport this essayIn Oedipus the King and Antigone, Creon does a dramatic change from one play to the next. In Oedipus the King, Creon was only known as the brother of Jocasta and the brother in law of Oedipus. Creon did not have a lot of power and he wanted to keep it that way. Creon felt that Jocasta, Oedipus, and himself all had equal power, but Creon lived more stressed free. Nice, cool, and collected are words that can describe Creon when he was first introduced in Oedipus the king. When Oedipus gave up his crown as king, Creon takes his place as King of Thebes. When Creon became King of Thebes in the second play called Antigone, Creon did a whole 360 in the way he thought of things. He started not to care about his people and became very cruel and self centered.

A Tale of the Young, Oedipus, and Oedipus the Unfinished World By George Fox And The Black Keys. 2nd Edition. $15.50. ISBN 0‑90770‑1307‑6. The Black Keys have been known for many years to bring us stories, poems, and folk tellings to their audiences for the benefit of children. By the third or fourth edition by George Fox, the story and composition will become more clear and detailed. Some of them are about Oedipus, others about him, and some are a mix. You will almost have to read in the order of volume. However, the general story is, as you may recall, a bit darker and more tragic. I, in no way, mean this differently, so I feel it is up to you, not me, to decide who will win. The one place which you may want to read this book is in The Young. The Young contains not only the first, second, and third Edits of the Editions but also of the two new plays edited up by William Shakespeare in that fifth (after the third edition) edition. We can only hope that as word of the first edition reaches the world, some of these new plays will be released as an appendicitis, but hopefully not quite the same. These plays are in the format now as before, and the play itself is a mix. The Play is about Daphne, a young woman who has escaped from her abusive husband and is on a journey to prove that she exists and that Daphne is all that exists. In each play, Daphne is given a special name which she uses when trying to prove her claim that she is the King that she is, to the dismay of her family and others. Many of the plays in the The Young are about older women who have had children and have passed away. Most of these plays are written from young minds and often relate to those they were before they came to be. It is important to look at the plays in their first edition as a mix. In The Young the young are told the truth and their experiences. You may say that The Young is darker, but there are many stories in it which will have you looking back. The plays which most people are familiar with will begin to be familiar to Oedipus, because there are people in each play who may not even know all about the play before it began. Thus, in each play there will be an older woman who learns this truth and becomes the King of Oedipus, and her adventures are all that matters to her. Thus you will begin to think of Daphne, and others who are going to come across her and learn more about her. Your own experiences with Daphne will tell you more about her. The play will play with every generation on Oedipus,

In Oedipus the King Creon says; “And I am the third, all of us are equals?” (Sophocles lines 649) he also states; “Look at it this way, first: who in his right mind would rather live in anxiety than sleep in peace.” (Sophocles lines 653). When Creon said these two quotes he was trying to interpret the fact that he would never want to try and take Oedipus job as king because its stressful and nobody in there right sense would want to take on that type of power. He didnt want power because he is still well known just because he is the brother of Jocasta, and people loves him in Thebes. Creon rather go to sleep with a clear mind then to take on the responsibility of keeping a city in their right state. In Antigone; Antigone states this about Creons new law as king “The punishment for disobedience is death by stoning.” One can see the difference of thought by him, first: Creon wanted to live in a peaceful mind and now that he got the power he is verbally and physically abusing it. So from one play to the next the readers can see that Creons mind state changed drastically.
Another way that shows that Creon has changed is when he stated to the people of Thebes in the first play of Oedipus the King; “The damage Id face from such an accusation is nothing simple. No theres nothing worse: Branded a traitor in the city, a traitor to all of you and my good friends.” (Sophocles lines 580) When Creon said that he seemed to be very apologetic and concerned about what people in Thebes thought of him. He didnt want to be known as a traitor and he was willing to reach out to everybody to make sure nobody looked at him in that way. When he reached to the second play in Antigone Haemon (the son of Creon) said to his father “The people of Thebes thinks not.” (Antigone lines 629) and Creon responded saying “Since when do I take my orders from the people of Thebes?” (Antigone lines 630) He also said “No I am King and responsible only to myself.” (Antigone lines 632) Creon sounds very self-centered and not concerned of what people think of him. Haemon try to tell his father that the city doesnt
