Ethical Dilemma
I believe that Juanita’s search for the “real” Sandra is not relevant, since there is no either dynamic go-getter or a complete introvert in. Sandra might be both a go-getter and an introvert at the same time, and might be more of a character than less of another. Sandra also seems to be a high-self monitor, basing on her behavior on cues from the situation. Her behavior is unpredictable, regarding to Juanita, but Sandra is still meeting the standards regarding being effective at work, since she did a great job at the staff meeting by being active and engaged. Since Sandra is more a high self-monitoring, she assesses her own workplace behavior accurately. Juanita’s seem to be stuck with her first impression of Sandra as a very quiet and introvert person, and she got surprised when Sandra shows her out-going side of herself. Her first impression seems to turn to an impression that has lasted of her new employee. Juanita should understand that Sandra has many different sides and characters, like many other people as well. Before Juanita starts to develop the question, whether Sandra is a good fit for Trumbell and Son or not, she should think about what her long-term goal is for the organization and for her new employee. Is it more important for Juanita that Sandra fits into the team and has a constant plain behavior, or should Juanita focuses more on Sandra’s better sides while she is engaged and outgoing on meetings and work related situations.
