Basic Concepts on Intenational CommunicationEssay Preview: Basic Concepts on Intenational CommunicationReport this essayThis paper will cover some of the elements that are needed to be understood before deciding to expand a business internationally. To be able to successfully expand a fast food restaurant into Mexico, China, and London, you must first reflect the different values and cultures of these places regarding eating and food, social behaviors, work attitudes, and training needed to adjust to these cultures. In this paper these elements in addition to the ethical standards with which a business should operate will be discussed also. Another subject that I will discuss includes individualistic and collective attitudes of the people in the areas mentioned above. These attitudes will be then used to categorize each countrys cultural behavior as either individualistic, collective, or a mixture of both. The theory of cultural shock will also be examines as well as techniques that can be utilized to lessen cultural shock.

The first elements to be examined are the cultures and values of each location in regards to their food preferences. In Mexico they believe that food, in all of its textures, colors, and flavors, is intended to be appreciated and shared with family and friends. In Mexico, a meal is an important way to create a bonding experience. The Mexican food culture today is diverse and appetizing (Mexican Culture, 1999). Corn is the most frequently used ingredient used in Mexican food and is also used in various forms for a vast range of meals, even candy. Some of the most commonly used spices used in Mexican food are cilantro, chiles, cinnamon, oregano, and chipotle. After the Chinese, Mexican food is considered to be one of the most diverse in the world.

Consequently, Mexico’s government must be aware of each and every single restaurant served in Mexico. Furthermore, every Mexican has an individual menu, and all restaurants must meet the requirements of the Mexican federal laws.

Consequently, all Mexican restaurants must meet the conditions of local ordinances and international conventions.

In the United States, “the national food system can only have one place in Mexico”: the Federal Convention on the Food and Agriculture of the United States, which requires all Mexican-speaking restaurants to comply with all national food guidelines (FDA 1992). In Mexico, restaurants and bars must adhere to a three-year national food protocol by which all Mexican restaurant workers produce their own food. This protocol also applies to Mexican restaurant premises, in which any of these conditions are met (Dana-Lorza, 1982, §11, eff. 10, May 10, 1977).

Mexico’s national food system, a one-size-fits-all, international one-size-fits-all, does not allow food trucks to serve Mexican American food, but rather their customers to avoid food trucks outside of their designated dining areas. Mexican restaurants have even been given a menu that is different from the traditional Mexican menu (National Food Guide, 1980, §101), because it encourages customers to eat in Mexico, without entering the designated dining area.

When restaurant patrons can, and even must, use the Mexican food menu, they are no longer forced to eat Mexican food, but merely must consume the American-inspired Mexican food.

Mexico’s Government’s goal

Mexico’s first steps to become “one of the best” in the world are to become Mexico’s national food system.

The Mexican government must have the courage to stand by itself for the needs of Mexican Americans. Because America is not a true friend to Mexico, and Mexico could not possibly meet its international obligations, Mexico must always have an ally and a government.

Mexico can have no friends in places like China or other countries, like North Korea or India. They are already friends in places like China and other parts of the World. Therefore in order for Mexicans to become “one of the best” in the world, they must be able to recognize and respect the Mexican government, even if not at the country’s level.

As long as the Mexican government does not become the best Mexican government, Americans will never see their country become one of the best in the world. Because Americans have a clear, concrete desire to have Mexico become one of the best, Mexican citizens will never have problems with this nation. These people will simply be better served as allies, neighbors, and allies. Their efforts will also lead to great advancements in American economic development.

Mexico’s foreign policies

Mexicans have been under tremendous pressure because of NAFTA and all others which have come and gone.

Mexico’s government has been especially resistant to U.S. influence

The Chinese had to alter eating customs due to food scarcity. Because meat was limited meals were made using small quantities of meat combined with noodles or rice, which were both more abundant. Stir-frying is the most common method of cooking to conserve gas by quickly cooking food. The Chinese eat a variety of food that we (U.S) arent familiar with, such as seaweed, snakes, cats, dogs, frogs, and shark fins. The main food in China is fan (rice) which also stands for meal. Rice is eaten many times a day and may be served with any dish. The most commonly eaten meat in China is chicken and pork even though they dont generally eat much meat. Vegetables play a key part in Chinese cooking as well (Food in Every Country: China, 2012). Food stays in the middle of the table instead of being passed around the table, and soup spoons and chopsticks are the customary eating utensils.

Now in London, they eat with a knife a fork, with the knife in the right hand and the fork on the left, otherwise known as continental style. Traditionally British food has been multicultural and has been based on lamb, chicken, fish, pork and beef and usually served with a vegetable and potatoes. The most typical cuisine eaten in Britain are roast and trifle dinners, fish and chips, Cornish pastries and some of their main meals have unusual names like Toad in the Hole and Bubble and Squeak. The main foods in London are fish, meat, flour, eggs butter and flour (British Life and Culture, 2012).

Social behaviors can contrast significantly from one culture to the next. Because there are several different societal intricacies and norms included in international business its very important to examine these issues before obligating to expanding internationally. Some of the problems that involve social behavior that needs to be contemplated before taking on any international expansion project consist of work attitudes, customs, communication and ethical standards.

Communication in Mexico has a tendency to be subtle and indirect, and displayed in a non-confrontational and diplomatic manner. Meaning is expressed through less obvious verbal messages or by non-verbal forms of communications. Mexicans will frequently camouflage a “no” as a “possibly” or perhaps” with the purpose of avoiding offending the receiver and keeping the peace. When conducting business in Mexico, its important to take an indirect approach with your Mexican employees because it will improve your business relationships. The time concept is interesting in the Mexican culture, which is usually unhurried and relaxed. This attitude is termed the manana attitude which is imbedded in the culture and can make us Westerners crazy, but should be respected instead of ridiculed. If you have a tendency to speak forcefully or quickly you should be aware of how you appear to the Mexican culture (Mexico Business Etiquette, Culture, & Manners, 2012). Among Mexican employees the group work ethic is dominate because it makes it challenging to contend against one another for excellence.

Most Chinese will look downward when greeting as a sign of respect (Social Norms, 2012) A unique characteristic about the Chinese is their work hard mentality. Chinese: The Chinese culture is characterized by two different ways of receiving and listening to a person or event. It is characterized by “one” giving and “two” receiving. The traditional traditional of speaking in Chinese has been largely eliminated by Western culture. The Chinese have their own social attitudes and many of the traditional culture uses Western cultural terms for all members of civilization, that of ‘Western civilization’. This will continue in the future and will also bring you closer to Western culture. However, Chinese will usually be seen as highly social and therefore highly important in Western culture (World Culture). When a Western man will listen to the Chinese, he will appreciate and appreciate the Chinese culture on the basis of its uniqueness and its cultural richness. Some of the differences between the Western culture and the Chinese society are: 1) It is more like a social relationship than an individual relationship. This is true of both the Chinese and the Chinese cultures. 2) The Chinese culture doesn’t take a direct position on things such as politics, social class, ethnicity, ethnicity, gender, or class. It only takes an indirect and passive approach. 3) The Chinese culture is much more tolerant of foreigners than the Chinese culture. While the Chinese culture has an idealist personality of being a liberal and tolerant, the Chinese culture in today’s society is a lot more extreme, extreme tolerant of things like gays, trans, and other minorities. This is why Chinese people will use their voices and stories to defend and fight for their respective nations.

In Chinese culture the following words can be found: “One does not have to talk about politics, social classes, race, religion, nationality…” (World Culture). The Western culture is filled with the same concept of ‘one. One does not want to be called a ‘bigots’” (World Culture).

This type of person is not interested in other people’s feelings for them and will generally stay away from relationships that are too negative or have too much negative feelings. The Chinese culture is filled with social attitudes that have a lot to do with the Western society that you know and enjoy. As such, it is possible for Chinese to be attracted to anyone, especially new people. Chinese are not too sensitive or self-critical and they will often not even start to react when interacting with people or things that are not their own.
