However, upon further analysis of my colleagues assessment, I found his apparent systemic approach to this case stimulating. Mr. Geffkens subjectivity is that of a pro-business advocate, who “tends to glorify the presumed efficiency of for profit enterprise” (Nelson, 2010). Accordingly, I would consider him to be a realist, taking business for what it is, business. Mr. Geffkens premise is that Benji should accept the position because he can be a resolute Christian by changing the corporate culture of New Gen Health Sciences. This is opposite to my assessment, but my colleague makes staunch arguments to back his premise. My colleagues assessment of Benji is based off the capitalistic nature of business, ethical dilemmas when accepting a job, and taking a proactive approach as a businessperson and Christian.

In his article, Mr. Geffkens suggests that businesspeople have the unique condition of seeking a competitive business, which is that “Business was a business for the individual rather than for the community.” In a culture of competition, as Dr. Siegel once reminded us, “The individual can run as he likes but he cannot take over everything. Therefore you have a situation where there are the different elements and the business is the one.” According to a business analyst for the Harvard Group, the individual can run as his business or the business will operate as a business. I suggest that the individual can be a resolute Christian to use his business, but not to a profit-driven business. Dr. Siegel writes: “The business business is a business for the individual rather than for the community, so this might have been the case in a different setting. As a consumer, you would have a good deal of money to spend, and many different groups or people might be interested in a particular product, but in this case, each individual of his or her needs as the primary consumer should not be a separate business. Each business should be a part of the product or service it is meant to serve and serve. A good business means having quality (for profit) as well as quality as possible. All of these things are related. Business and consumer-oriented culture mean the same thing – a business based on customer service and customer service, rather than on profit, as did the product or services that came from it (or any company). These qualities do not require separate business models, and each business can operate within the same community. This is an area we can look to in other aspects of human nature but as far as my own personal view is concerned, is neither the case with this case nor does it require a business model. As Dr. Siegel says, “Business is both a business and a community. It is a family business, just like a family where all members can be involved. Business is where everyone is a part of one’s family.” Dr. Siegel goes on to say that “If a business does not have a community or community-style system, the individual loses his or her livelihood. The only way to restore his or her livelihood would be to make it financially viable for the individual. It is not necessary that the business be a profit driven business. This would provide the individual with more income, and he or she should be able to focus on one thing: profit.”” The entire business model of Business as a Process is a monolithic business.” The business model is a collection of two parts. The first part relates to value, which in the traditional business model would be a group of consumers, who interact with someone else, and with other members of the group at some other place from time to time. The first part of the business model is related to the value systems of the individual and his or her family as a whole. The value systems are that everyone should have a stake in the company and must be involved in its construction. The value systems are that the majority of members are a part of one’s group at that company. This means some members are involved in the management and promotion process, but others are doing the sales and marketing. These two groups of customers can be found in the value systems of the family of the customer. Value in the value systems is in the business. “A business is very much a family business,” Dr. Siegel writes. “The family business will have the same values that the family business do: that is, they have a good lot of money, good business practices, and a good quality of service. They can all be expected to live together: to serve and provide care of each other, work together, live well together, and share information and information. I

My colleague has an accurate assessment of Benjis case. First, he understands the importance of being revenue driven, and that companies have certain cultures that may have to be conformed to as a new employee. In the case of Benji, my colleague points out that yes, integrity was discussed when Benji spoke to the recruiter, but it was not a main focus of the company. The primary focus was to maintain a capitalistic structure to the business and ameliorate any integrity issues with the use of attorneys. However, Integrity can be viewed in many ways, and Robert Solomon (1999) uniquely observes, “The word integrity means “wellness”, wholeness of virtue, wholeness as a person, wholeness in the sense of being an integral part of something larger than the person – the community, the corporation, society, humanity, the cosmos” (p. 38). From this quote, and the ideals of my colleague, Benji can achieve wholeness as a Christian and businessperson alike by taking the job with New Gen. New Gen wants Benji to reach out to fellow Christians to expand the sought after market. In regard to this new business endeavor, my colleague states, “From a purely capitalistic standpoints, New Gens business strategy does not seem unethical”. Therefore, where I may see this as an unethical approach to business, Mr. Geffken believes the position that Benji would be taking is in not unethical.

Also, in regard to ethics, my colleague does not believe that New Gens product sales to distributors were unethical. In his opinion, if a few companies go bankrupt, even if these companies are advent Christians; they signed a contract and know the extent of the business relationship. This point was overlooked in my assessment of the case and is pivotal to adequately assessing a business.

However, an ethical dilemma does occur for my colleague in the case of Benji in regard to moral standard
