ESM is Europes market leader in the field of oscillating mowing technology – and the global market leader in the field of double-knife technology. ESMs design and development department is in constant dialogue with industrial customers and OEMs in order to support them in the development of mowing and cutting systems. Through this close partnership, time-tested over 30 years, optimal inter-coordination for the mowing machinery can be achieved
The “Long-stroke Double-blade Cutting Technology” has to be recognized as a living proof, that traditional technologies – like sickle bar cutting – still contain options with a view to further fundamental development steps. The “Long-stroke Double-blade Cutting Technolgy” is actually representing an essential foundation for several special cutting applications. The innovative technology has been honored by patent protection in 2006. This special cutting- technology allows harvesting cleanly and low to the ground while using a very low power consumption. It is also very resistant to rocks, stones or other foreign obstacles.
ESM has numerous other innovative designs and machines from water maintenance to verge cutting and even lentil cutting where specialized cutting methods are required.
The General Manager is Mr Karl-Richard Strohn and has been the MD since 2001. He will be involved in all the strategical questions that might arise
The head engineer is Mr Wolfgang Oehler. He has 4 engineers and draftsman under him and for any machine technical query can be directed to him.
The International technical Manager is Matthew Langton and lives in South Africa on the Southern Coast. He has studied Agricultural Engineering and attained a masters in Engineering specializing in sugarcane harvesting and management systems. He has grown up on a sugarcane farm and still live on the farm that does 10000 tons annually. He also worked under Professor Peter Lyne at SASRI (South African Sugar Research Institute) doing cost analyses on various sugarcane farming operations as well as mechanisation options. He then started working for ESM and helped in developping and implementing the CaneThumper and other machines into the industry and the world. This experience around the world has been invaluable and we have got an indepth understanding of the intricate systems that vary from country to country. We have covered southern africa, south and central america, india and east asia and as far as Fiji
Through Matthew we offer a range of services from world sugar overviews, indepth understanding of the industry in various countries, contacts and a “farmers” that is practical and realistic.
He will also be assisting you with any in-field question from labour management to machine set-up. Please dont hesitate to ask any question.
Facing the sugarcane cutting challenge we have to state, that over 80% of the worlds sugarcane is still harvested by hand. Mechanical options available are only able to operate under limited conditions which include flat lands, no rocks, long lines and some only in straight cane. This is not taking into consideration the stool damage caused by using rotary cutting systems and the soil compaction while moving with heavy equipment in the fields.
ESM have developed a revolutionary new way of harvesting sugarcane using the patented system, the tractor mounted and due to market pressure in the process of developing the in conjunction to the market leaders in shredding and mulching.
The , equipped with specific designed, patented protected ESM double-knife sickle bar technology harvests the cane low and clean under many different conditions including green cane. In average conditions the can harvest 60-80 tons or 0.8ha-1,0ha per day using 7 to 8 labour units. They leave the cane cut, topped and ready for subsequent loading. A maximum of 160tons in a single day has been obtained.

Over the past 6 years we have realised that every country and every farmer has its own unique conditions and surrounding issues from Brazil where the farms are over a 1000has to India where the average farmer has only 2 ha under sugarcane. For this reason we have adapted and changed our view point on having only the best carrier unit to also cost effective units. We have numerous options with small petrol engines to large diesel engines depending on what is accepted best in that country. Every choice is now available for the end user that include the following:
Size and type of engine,
Gearbox reduction and number of gears,
Size and type of tyres,
Electronics and headlights,
Air filter systems,
Clutch types,
We are striving for every farmer to have a
NO matter what!
