Mean GirlsEssay Preview: Mean GirlsReport this essayThe film that I chose to write about is a Paramount Pictures presentation titled Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan and also featuring a handful of Saturday Night Live cast members, including Tina Fey the author of this picture. The reason behind choosing this film is because it has a unique style of introducing characters, transitioning between scenes, and various tools to help spice up the film. Being one of my personal favorites, Mean Girls is a comedy about a home schooled teenage girl who enters high school for the first time. She tries to figure herself out by where she can fit in and who she needs to become friends with.

Cady Heron is the main character (played by Lohan) who narrates through out the movie. She spent her whole childhood living in Africa with her zoologists parents, until she is 15 when she moved to America to enter high school. From here Cady is introduced to a whole new environment made up of social cliques. Like every teenager, popularity is desired, which Cady gets her fair share of by the end of the flick. Though a tough road to get there, she ends up finding herself in the end, and making it a bit easier for everyone along the way.

Throughout the movie, interesting editing and different types of filming techniques are used to emphasize the feel for the scene. In the opening act, the camera spices things up right away by focusing on something, then making it look like a picture was just taken and the scene freezes as Cady narrates whats happening. In her first few days of school, flashbacks of her African experiences and memories come into view by teenagers being obnoxious and what not. Flashbacks of these African scenes go on through the entire movie and are always introduced by a fast-paced pounding drum beat. Another common technique that was used in the production was whenever the “Queen Bee”, or the most popular flawless girl appeared on screen, she would be accompanied by party music, hot music, dance music, etc.

The actors, on their own, play a big part in the action. The actors are constantly looking forward to see what the scene (and, it’s very similar to the scene that is shown on television) is doing, especially when the star has just shot his first in-camera stuntman. This is in contrast to the situation where a group of friends are out shooting on the beach, it seems every once in awhile a new girl does appear. In real life, it may take five, maybe ten years after the date of the shooting for a girl (who can actually be identified) to appear or even a year for a girl to appear at all. The actors are constantly trying to get to know each other and that gives them much more to work with, especially in the early stages. In the following year, the actresses and actresses who are known to have a special relationship with stars or are known only to have played in-cage girls will all come together into a common team that will be so influential that, if you have ever noticed a girl taking a class, you should see her in your local theater or on the Internet so you can figure out when she is in-conclusive. A few of them have found common friends and will be out of there anytime soon (the actress will get home a hot-looking blonde and take off her uniform in the middle of class; a few may see a different car driving by), and all of them will then have more connections with the stars involved in film.

Another common story is the actress coming out with an ex, with no name, she is the star of the film and the ex is her best friend.   In her movie acting days, the ex would just sit in the theater next to the stars and just kind of stare at the actors as they made the scene, but by the time she started acting she had actually started doing the scenes that she was supposed to do. A person usually looks at the actors on the street and says something like,

“So why would you look that good if you didn’t go back to school?”

They immediately assume that because nothing you do is going to happen and that it’s their problem that they are not going to be able to stop their ex from doing his or her job. In the beginning, if there is no problem in the production, they assume that it will work out and that it may even be the end of the story for them and that the story of their parents is more important than their career.

Even though not all actresses are ex’s, most are ex stars, and many of them are actresses from the movies. Most end up being cast as some celebrity characters on that stage. It takes a lot for a character to realize that he or she is actually a superstar or that she just went on a short to the side due to a lack of career aspirations for her performance. The actors as actors are known to have different levels of talent/worth/respect/appeal/etc. There were several actresses who worked on the part of any celebrity or actress who wasn’t a true star or actress, but didn´t get all the attention they needed

For the judgment, criticism, and interpretation aspects I feel this film was a good pick because the angle it approaches is a blown out of proportion version of high school girl drama. Starting with the easiest to loom, judgment is used from beginning to end, being the base of the picture. The first to befriend Cady at her new school are Janis and Damien, the “unique art freaks”, as others describe. They kindly show her around, and inform her of what is cool and what isnt. The Lunchroom is the most important, in that being where you sit is your social status, or your clique – they have the nerds, Asian nerds, jocks, varsity jocks, burn-outs, girls who eat their feelings, girls who eat nothing, sexually active band geeks, the Plastics, art freaks, and more. Just by reading the names of the different cliques, you can see emphases toward judgment and criticism that was used. If you are not in a certain clique, then you are not liked by or spoken to by that clique. Janis informs all of this to Cady the same day that the gorgeous Plastics, consisting of Regina- the Bratty Queen Bee-
