The University of Mississippi is a community of learning dedicated to nurturing excellence in intellectual inquiry and personal character in an open and diverse environment.
As a student coming from a private school, I definitely have been educated about diversity during my time on campus, but specifically this EDLD class. We had a speaker come and speak about diversity. I have also noticed how diverse the culture of this University can be. Most organizations make a point of including everyone in everything that they do. I have noticed this a lot in front of the Union when we have guest musicians come.
As a voluntary member of this community:
I have the choice of abiding by this creed.
I believe in respect for the dignity of each person.
Each person on campus (students, teachers, professors, administrators) is their own person. They should not be treated differently in any way
I believe in fairness and civility.
I definitely believe that fairness should be a big part of this University and everyone that comes into contact with us. Whether it is grades, athletics, or just the way someone is treated, fairness should be used in all situations. I also believe that everyone on this campus should act in a civil manner. I believe this definitely is a big part of living on campus in the dorms. I did not know my neighbors when I moved in, but I still treated them like normal people and did not do anything to be uncivil. I have friends that have neighbors that do not act civil and keep them up until all hours of the night. That is not civil, and I do not believe students at this University should act like that.
I believe in personal and professional integrity.
