How was I socialized?
From a very young age I have been socialized by my parents, teachers, and the media. not surprisingly today I have a lot of the same views as my parents. An example of this is even though we live in a very republican state and most people still spank their children, I wasnt. I was raised to believe that hitting your children is very bad. In my option it raises children to be aggressive. And I know I will never hit my kids. But maybe if I was brought up by different people or even just different view of my parents I would think differently. Though out schools you are extremely socialized. Pre-k through fourth grade I went to a private British school. They had much stricter rule than a public elementary school would have. I feel because of this I have had much more respect for other people, and peoples personal belongings that the average teenager. Through out high school I was on drum line. And I was socialized to know if I failed I would be in a lot of trouble. Having several solos my senior year I knew if I were to fail class and not be able to perform my director would be very upset. Also being in junior high you realized you are being judged by your piers. I was socialized to try to fit in the crowd. To not be that weird kid who tries to rebel against my piers and teachers. When my older brother had his child I was socialized into a new role, being an aunt! This changed the way I acted because now we had a baby living at our house. The media also plays a huge roll in shaping who we are. I know I bandwagon a lot of the trends that the media has put in front of my eyes. My miss me jeans, my shoes, to the way I dye my hair. Its all because of what is put in front of me.
