Making a Dream HomeSTARTING FROM SCRATCHMaking A Dream HomeGraduation ProjectBonnie L. WaltersSpring, 2005Mentor: Mrs. Sue RovinAdvisor: Mrs. NovotnyFORMAL PROJECT PROPOSALI recently purchased a new home four months ago. Having waited so long to finally purchase a home, I want every room to be functional and beautiful. For my Graduation Project, I plan to furnish and decorate my living room and dining room. My project will include determining a budget, creating basic blueprints of the rooms, and selecting and purchasing furniture and accessories. Once the living room and dining room are furnished, I plan to photograph the rooms to create a computer-based virtual tour for my tangible product.
My Graduation Project is now being made. I will be adding a second home in January, which will take roughly 4 years to complete. Since I haven’t had any home projects in progress with the students in this project since I started this project in 2012, I have now made 2 projects as a Graduation Project (Mortgage Stabilization for Staying Home; Retirement Stabilization and Mortgage Purchase) to provide the basic planning, design, and building information in this project to students.
Projects are in final stages of planning with many potential future plans being finalized over the next few years in order to ensure I have the most up to date plan for this new project.
This document has been written in collaboration with the Community College of San Diego and the Southern California Center for Housing Design and Economic Development (SACDED). We are grateful to all for their help. The students and students at the community colleges do not only work together, they work to improve on the project. They want the projects done!
My Graduation Project is the third part of my project which will be a three year program with additional projects to support the students and mentors, the rest are planned while students are still enrolled in this project. We will complete the final project within the first three years.
In addition to the students living on campus in my Graduation Project (Mortgage Stabilization for Staying Home; Retirement Stabilization and Mortgage Purchase), there may be other student mentors that need to be hired on the remaining projects of the project. We are working with them to plan the project and build up those supporting staff to assist the student.
Students and Student Affairs at the Community College of San Diego (SCDED have two separate project groups, one focusing on undergraduate and graduate students, and the other on all students seeking a graduate degree.
The SCDED project groups focus on the student and mentor that will provide most of the support for and project for my Graduation projects.
I will be putting forth an original project titled “D.C. Graduation Project: Design & Build an Open Space Spaceship at the Los Angeles International Airport (LOAS) in 2012. At first glance, it looks like an old house but it is not. As we expand the project further and more students come to LAUSD, we will create a dedicated space and office that can be used for both study and community education.
We will hire

I chose this project because the house I bought is substantially larger than my former apartment. At this time, I do not have any furniture for these rooms. I also chose this project because I enjoy interior decorating. This topic will enable me to explore one of my interests while meeting a personal need. In completing this project, I hope to become more knowledgeable about furniture and interior design. I also hope to learn about quality versus price as well as getting the most for my money. I will gain experience in creating a realistic budget and adhering to it. Finally, I will be able to apply the skills and process I learn throughout this project to decorating the other rooms in my house.
In order to complete my project, I will need to research different styles and periods of furniture, types of wood, furniture manufacturers, furniture stores, and fabrics. I plan to visit numerous furniture stores to see the actual pieces of furniture and to discuss my plans with different sales consultants. I also plan to consult various magazines, books, and home decorating television shows as well as visit model homes for decorating tips. Finally I will need to research the differences in the quality of fabrics, so that I will choose a fabric that will be both durable and aesthetically pleasing. I will make extensive use of the computer and the Internet to develop my budget, to research furniture manufacturers and companies, and to create my virtual tour. I will also use my digital camera to take photographs of my living room and dining room once they are finished for my tangible product. The virtual tour I create will show how I applied the knowledge I gained through my research of interior decorating. Other evidence of my research will include the following: notes from magazines, books, and home
