People did not believe in my facts, and thought my theories unsavory. Resistance was strong and unrelenting. In the end, I succeeded.”
This quote recited by Sigmund Freud shows much of his character and reflects his career in psychology greatly. Freud studied at the University of Vienna, Austria. He was very interested in medicine and neurology to be specific. He learned there the key tools; experiment, observation, and conclusion.

Freud was very effected by medicine and art and joined the two together when he later became a renound psychologist. Freud saw himself as a scientist and viewed his studies as therapy. He was very well known for being a good listener and proved this to be a huge party of therapy.

Freud had many ideas and theories that many people looked down upon and thought crazy. Despite their reservations, Freud kept on with his studies and never let his opponents get him down. When he did experiments with dreaming and the unconscious, he tried to prove that dreams were a deeper sense of ones self. That the unconscious was a state of mind that reflected a sense of wish and fulfillment. Many people thought this idea truly irrational, but that never stopped Freud from his instinct and ideas.

Freuds idea that each person was sexual from birth was one that caused much controversy as well as his dream ideas. He was looked down upon by many in the art, science, medical and philosophical world. But without Freuds ideas, theories, practices, and experiments much of science, personality and psychology would not be understood. It takes a strong man with a lot of will to persevere under skepticism and that is why Freud to me is such an icon in the world of psychology.
