Florida Everglades Unesco
The Florida Everglades, are one of the last places in the United States where American Bald Eagles and Gators can nest, without the dominate species on this planet aggravating them. That species is Man; we have almost wiped out the natural biospheres of these wetlands. A wetland is an area that is inundated (flooded) or saturated (soaked) by ground or surface water frequently or for prolonged periods — often enough and long enough to support vegetation typically adapted for life in saturated soils. Wetlands are habitats that have both hydric (wet) soils and vegetation. Wetlands types found in Florida include bay heads, cypress wetlands, deep marshes, hardwood swamps, hydria hammocks, shallow marshes and wet prairies. Because water levels in wetlands can fluctuate, the presence of water by ponding, flooding or soil saturation is not always a good indication that an area is a wetland; other characteristics have to be taken into account. (S.J.W.M, 2010) The varied life in the Florida evergaldes is spread out over thousands of acres. These inhabitants of the swamp are, Alligators, Bullfrogs, Striped neck turtles and soft shelled as well. The bird life in the Glades is varied as well, from Egrets to Bald Eagles, from the Mockingbird, which is the State bird. To migratory birds from all over the westren hemisphere. The Insects of the Glades, are even more varied than the vertebrates of the swamp. Florida has its fair share of biting and nusiance bugs. From the pestering mosquitos to the paint peeling Love bugs. The swamp has all of these life forms and some that mother nature never intented for this state. Those are the invasive species of snakes and birds, monkeys and iguanas. The gold fish we flush into the city water system that makes it into the fresh waters of the Glades, becomes so big that they eat the native Bass and crappy. The snakes let go because we can not afford to feed anymore become one of this states worst nightmares. One killed a two year old toddler by crushing it to death. Once the wardens thought that the native Gators would clear this problem up for them, recently found a gator that had been eaten and swallowed whole. This was in the national news and has caused the state to issue rewards on the nefarious offenders for letting unlicenced snakes go in the wild. The problem with this is the snakes are already out there. They now have to get hunters to kill and remove these snakes in order to regain the balance between predator and prey. The fresh water and fish commission in Florida has several hunderd Game wardens training hunters in how to hunt and kill these snaks without getting hurt themselves. Some of these snakes can reach lentghs of 25 feet. More than big enough to kill a full grown gator, much less a adult man. The everglades has had it share of troubles in the last centry. The sugar plantations almost wiped out the glades in the early part of the twenth century. That was stopped by ferce oposition by enviromentalists,
