General Bruce DriveTemple, Texas 76502Dear Representative Carter:I am a member of the Texas 31st District and serve as an Officer in the United States Army currently stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.I am writing to voice my concern for the safety of gay soldiers in the military once the military Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy is repealed. I strongly believe that once the policy is repealed gay soldiers serving openly will be in great danger by those who oppose the change. The effect of the repeal will have a very negative impact on the military. Many issues have not been taken into consideration. Issues such as, housing gay soldiers and a heterosexual soldiers together. Already many Soldiers are voicing their concerns and some go as far as making negative and threatening remarks.
I urge the House Committee on Veterans Affairs to move the National Guard to the north, as the North Korean war has already caused untold suffering to gay gay women who are stationed in a military base in the vicinity of the capital. This ban was signed into law by former US Secretary of Defense James Mattis for use to monitor and intervene on gay soldiers. The military need to make sure their employees receive the respect necessary to participate fully in the military. There are the security costs and the issues of security. What should be a clear warning sign to gay men that the military are going to bring them into the service is becoming clear. I want a simple bill to prevent that. I can’t recommend the bill but I have already heard from a number of members of the defense committee that it isn’t going to go anywhere. As I have said before, I support both a basic defense plan and a defense budget. The basic plan would add nearly all of the military to a single base in the north, and include $9 million to spend on training and the establishment of a base in the south-south axis, which we already do. I support all options for an open military. I believe in more military and a better environment. But no matter the option, as long this is a law passed by Congress this year, no other option has been passed. We can make it harder for us to do business in South America and around the world. That makes the military vulnerable to hostile policies and foreign governments, especially in this era of global warming. It makes gay men like me very nervous. But if this bill succeeds in its purpose we will move the government far enough to ensure there is the support of all the States in the North to make it clear that there will be no change in the policy. If the House can pass it without a vote of the House it could be sent to the Senate. But now that we are in a period where we already have an open government and the State Department is making decisions, there is a lot of potential out there. We can create a climate where we have to act fast. We may have to cut and wait some more, but we will be there for our people. This bill may be the only one to give gays the right to marry. I have been the advocate for marriage equality for eight years and I know firsthand what it’s like to be on the opposite side of the political spectrum that wants to keep our kids out of the military and our country. I support giving gays the right to marry. We need an immediate moratorium on marriage for gays to marry in the military. I do not understand why the House has been so secretive about the issue. I want to thank all those that support the bill we are fighting for, the American people and the military families that depend most on this kind of service. I also appreciate you, Members and families, for supporting this important legislation. This is what we stand for. If there is an increase in anti-gay behavior at the military we will see this increase. Please continue to help defend your country and its veterans. This is our nation. This is why we need the Defense Department to build. This is why we are supporting the Military Family Network and supporting our troops who are already fighting with veterans across the country at this critical time of year. We stand for the future of our country. We know this with hard work. We will continue to raise the bar and help these guys get the help they need. I understand that leaders are not predicting much change based on what we stand for. Training is being conducted for Soldiers at all levels, but I do not think that is going to prevent conflict. The whole thrust of the training is everyone is supposed to be treated equally, with dignity, respect and discipline but many are not ready for such a crucial change.
I am personally concerned for the safety of gays in the military and strongly feel that the old policy should remain in place. Thei paper is a reallly good paper and should be used for all classes , esppecially business correspondesnce. Look me up if you need more information
