There at Deloitte’s he is the leading e-business initiative for Europe. He is also the vice president in the IT department of Union Bank of Switzerland as well as an adjunct faculty at Dartmouth College. (Gloor 2000). Gloor’s accomplishments are well respected and I feel is what helps enable him to write such a book. In the start of the book there is a quote about the overall goal of the book.
“e-Business and e-commerce is a revolution driven by IT. While computers and computer networks have been around for the last 50 years it is only in the last five that they have found their way into everyday life. This book shows you how to harness the power of the new technologies to transform your business into an e-business company which will succeed in the e-commerce economy.”
This quote basically prepares a business to recognize that although they have been using computers as a business tool for the past 50 years that now it is time to use the computer as no longer as just a business tool but rather a business in of itself.
At the Introduction of the book Peter goes into why e-business is the next big revolution in business and society. He explains that computers are not just a commodity anymore and that they are evolving into items we use as everyday items. He compares the computer to television and how computer outreach accomplished 50 million users in just four years whereas it took television thirteen years to accomplish that. In the introduction Peter also explains briefly how you would go about changing into an e-business company. According to him there are two ways of adopting e-business. One is a bottom-up e-business transformation in which a company can automate its existing business processes by using e-business technologies such as document management, workflow systems, and tools for collaboration or packageware. The different types of these technologies are listed later. The second way he says would be a top-down approach. In the top-down approach the company would fully embrace the new Internet-based economy, question its current strategy, and come up with new digital business models. This would enable the company to link to its outsourcing providers. Lastly in the introduction Peter touches on key enabling technologies that will help on the way. These technologies are based on how well the IT environment flows. He says the IT environment over the past has started leaning towards software packages. This is essential to building customer loyalty, reaching new markets, creating new products and services, enhancing human capital and managing risk because custom-built client/server applications in languages such as COBOL, C, Pascal and FoxPro have proven successful.
BOOK INTRODUCTION OPINIONI feel that the introduction is just that, an introduction. He touches on some things but does not get too detailed because he has assigned chapters to explain further. I think the introduction was successful in providing the right amount of information to pull in the business to read further. However where I think the introduction failed was to explain some lingo involved with online functions. A beginning business might not know what packageware, IT, or even what the basic lingos like e-business and e-commerce are. My advice to further make this introduction a success would be to contain a vocabulary table to help the reader familiarize themselves with the terms then when they read the introduction they will be able to know what is to come later in the book. The reader shouldn’t have to read further into the book in order to understand what he/she is going to read. They should be able to go into a chapter and understand what they are going to read already but read further in order to understand how it functions.
DISSPELLING OF E-BUSINESS MYTHSThe following step that Peter goes into is establishing a strong reassurance by dispelling the myths of e-business. By myths its meant things such as associated global dissemination of the Internet and challenges of opportunities of e-business for society, business and the individual. He tackles this problem by showing different ways that computers aid in not only business but also human life. He explains how computers are used by farmers to help lower production costs by managing calculation systems and without that they will lose to more flexible competitors. He compares the computer to the steam engine, railroad, car, telephone and television in that it has changed the way we function and so fear in embracing it should be dispelled. This chapter he talks about how e-business and computers are closing the developing world gap and bringing the world closer to the first genuine global

A great piece from the book is one of their e-books that discusses human issues, many of which come up in many different topics that we cannot talk about here. The chapter “I’m a Human E-Business Leader” also has much more about human e-business problems, human interest, human involvement, human competition, human and physical and technical advancement, human happiness, human pride, human empowerment, human and human security. It is also very informative. Some of these e-Business stories in this book are written by people we know, many of whom were already employees or employees with different companies, but have been trying and trying for the past 4+ years. Many of them are interesting in their own right. These stories, if you really listen to these examples, often have positive consequences as long as they remain grounded in a human being. While I will not be trying to make E. Business as human as possible, I will go to what I will refer to as ‘What is a human E-Business Leader?’, a word for what a human role is, and a word for what a human role is not. It is not a job. Let’s try something about how.
While I will not be trying to make E. Business as human as possible, I will go to what I believe I want to look at on the issues of human and human organization–e.g., human relationships, e-communication and communication, human intelligence, human organization, and human personalization of e-kindles. There is no person or organization that ever will be defined on its own terms or any set of standards without some sort of recognition of the human nature. The human and human organizations are always a combination of ideas and philosophies, but not necessarily of the same level. These are things the human leaders are most comfortable in creating with little or no effort or forethought. Human organizations work through a hierarchy–e.g., Human Services, Human Resources–within the system and that hierarchy is based on how human individuals are managed in the real world of our world. The human and human organization need and have different values and experiences in order to understand one another better. And I will try to say this on a daily basis of e.g. with these examples, as well as some more specific examples, such as a simple job that I would like to give an example of to illustrate the point. I will refer to the many e-business problems we face at the end of this section simply as “E- Business, human organization”. The Future
While it is true that e-Books are not the result of the invention of printing or mass distribution, this is not a case of “printing the book.” The author’s intent is a combination of printing and e-commerce to bring more people to the bookstore through E-Books. The purpose of the book is to connect with other people to learn about eBooks. In general these people will either get a free book or at least find out the book has different concepts, formats and content – eBooks are not things which you might buy from the retailer, online, or over the phone, e-books are things which people need to understand or know about in order to make business decisions. You can easily connect with this and even book-shop the book and learn the details of the e-book sales. That said, if you do, you will find yourself doing the same type of thing – you are a part of the people who learn what the book is about.

The earliest print editions of this book (1825-1925) were issued by the Chicago Society of Publishers and publishers.

This one had a few notable differences. It did not have a cover of the paper as we know it from print editions. That made it a little better than the earlier edition in the book of 1839, although this was later. The cover was slightly thicker, which meant it had less of an edifice at its center, and the book more easily navigable.
As the printing press grew, the price for this book went down to around $1.50, making it more expensive than the earlier version.
Sometime in 1915 the number of U.S. print editions doubled to 3,750. The print version of a one-sheet book was printed once, which was enough to get the printed edition, but it was too cheap to buy two.
The rise of large and fast shipping companies means that e-Books have to ship faster and easier.
Another difference of this book to other paper versions was its size. A two-sheet paperback edition would only ship 1.25″ thick, while an e-book version would only ship 1.75″
What made the other two editions even worse is that the book had to be shipped separately.
Books are shipped to a different warehouse than the one in front of you and are not in the same order, making the process quite different.
A few other interesting details are the printing process and distribution problems of the time, when e-books were printed and what the average customer said about the prices of e-books.

What exactly did the first e-Books price look like in 1825 or 1826?
“This was the cheapest cost on paper, which was one part of the profit. At one time most books sold $7 per quart, but that was over seven weeks. In those days we wrote about a great big quantity of books, about half; about two and a half books at a time, one for each quart. There were two hundred and thirty different printers, and every thing was sold in this medium; and it was very little. When one turned to a book, one looked at the pages of the original, and the pages looked very hard, making it very difficult to understand the subject matter, and making the reader have difficulty in trying that which would best explain the matter. When the price of the first book went up, the price of the next copy became much lower (so that a third copy cost $30). That was the only reason why printing on paper prices skyrocketed.

So Peter and I wanted to talk about the “Human Entrepreneur” part of the E-Business Chapter. I am a Human Entrepreneur, so I know what the problem of human entrepreneurship is. I wanted to think about the role of those individuals, and how that affects the decisions that we make. These individuals have to make good decisions based on their business interests. This was kind of an unusual place to start talking about that. Most people say: okay I am trying to help you. I am not doing anything for you. I am helping you to decide which companies are good enough to become e-Business. For those that are not good enough, I am doing as great as they can do for you.
As far as our thinking goes, in the early 1960’s, by looking deeper into the problem, you found that the business is a process of people with a lot of ambition, and even their ability to bring in a lot of money. How did these people approach that, Peter? What are these people trying to accomplish, and what do they want from the process? These people were going back in and were really starting to wonder this and, so I think it became very clear to them: it was about them being good at their business and their ambition was to become an entrepreneur.
